Is he? Did you? Read like most of his dreary bullshit to me with the odd poncy word thrown in to give the illusion of being clever. Guess what? I'm in the Hate Him Camp

Russel Brand is just a loudmouth fuckwit. Was up Kings Cross(Sydney) here giving it large some time ago (Sapphire Suite if I remember). Carrying on like a tool, he was told in no uncertain terms by a few lads to shut his noise up, or he was going to get a kicking. He left. He's a sea hunt with a capital C. I wouldn't even wipe my arse on anything that prick wrote. He's so overrrated. TWAT !!

I adopted his approach to that book he's mincing on about and stopped reading after the first sentence then wanked a cat off that was high on caffeine or whatever.

Russell Brand is the embodiment of all of the ills in our society. Obscene amounts of money being paid to a talentless, foulmouthed, scruffy lout.
The sooner he and that other useless idler Ross are sacked and fined their life earnings the better.

Typical of much of what passes for humour these days. The world is their oyster in that they have so much more available to them in order to get a laugh but still fail miserably with a large proportion of the public. They can now be crude, foul-mouthed and offensive, seemingly with the blessing of many, and are still less funny than many of those who had to remain within strict boundaries of taste and descency.
I know it's my age so you'll have to forgive me but, for me, he's just not funny. But then it's just opinions and I'm sure some think he's brilliant.

This culture of so called celebrity is obscene whether in sport or entertainment industries.

Russell Brand being discussed on a football message board, would there be any other outcome?
I think the majority of what he does is hilarious. His comedy is there to... hell the reason he exists is to piss small minded idiots off. Fair enough if you genuinely don't find him funny, there's no accounting for taste, but I get the feeling a lot of people see someone who dresses a bit wierd and talks using big words and they ignore what he is actually saying because they are either too stupid to understand his sentiments or because they can't allow themselves to like someone who dresses a bit like a poof and get's laid more times than they could ever dream of!

Comedy, comedy - it is you who must be joking. Foul mouthed abuse has never, is never and will never be comedy. Prison is the best place for this gargoyle.

I take it you are one of the few who doesn't enjoy screaming 'wanker wanker wanker' at an opposition player and then laugh about it afterwards?
He made one mistake, highly publicised, highly criticised and (i would say) probably fairly punished. The majority of his comedy is witty, well informed and inkeeping with what most people think; he just puts it in a way that not many others would (or would dare to) do.
On the notion of prison...I'm sure you would like to lock up everyone who has insulted someones granddaughter after abolishing the right to free speech (also negating the fact he apologised and quit!), however unfortunately he would probably enjoy prison wouldn't he?...All that bumming and reading.

hokusai:
As I said earlier when I excused my dislike of him, it's probably generational. For myself, I'm used to comedians who HAD to remain within the bounds of decency and it was always consuidered EASY to get laughs with foul-mouthed tactics and stupidity(acting like a 10 year old). He couldn't have made a living 30 years ago.
But I appreciate, it6's pesonal taste.
However, I do object to being labled 'too stupid' to understand him. I understand him only too well, hence the dislike.

What this person did had nothing to do with free speech it wasn't a 'mistake' it was a criminal act by someone in the public eye who is rewarded very handsomely for his celebrity status. All grown ups have to accept some responsibility for their actions and it has been the accepted norm in this country that celebrities are punished more severely for their misdemeanors because of the rewards. Brand and the other lout Ross broadcast foul abuse against other people as well as making obscene phone calls and broadcasting them. What deterent is there to other 'like-minded' idiots if these two aren't punished by removing their liberty. This kind of behaviour is not acceptable - full stop and as of yet there has been no punishment whatsoever. The Twitter images released by Ross of him and Brand at the weekend further demonstrate their contempt for the law and public decency. Clearly their so called apologies are not worth the electrons they were broadcast along. Allow the law to be eroded in this way and the only future for all of us is one that is far less pleasant. You can see by the majority reaction on this board that Brand is treated with contempt by decent folk and rightly so.

OK I don't read the mail or any papers for that matter and forget prison as that's just daft BUT .... Didn't think he was funny before the phone call and i can cope with Jonathan Ross. Brand however is just pathetic. You think we don't like him because of how he dresses and because of the things he dares to say? Personally i find very few comedians funny who dress like idiots or pull daft faces when they think it's a lasting humour in the absence of jokes. As for what he dares to say i suggest you pop over to the GD board and you'll soon see what most of us 'dare' to say. Believe me when people are so, so famous and successful i'll always give them more than a fair chance but in the end i just get bewildered that we have so many fuckwits out there that think that's entertainment or in the slightest bit intelligent. There's a lot more to intelligence than big words and yes i do know what nearly all of them mean.

One other thing, perhaps prison is too good for him and I make a humble Russell Brand type apology. Burning at the stake would be much more fun.

Just to add to the argument and for a giggle for others as often you're not allowed one on here This is one of my favourite comedians and as you'll see if you like to get offended, you'll get offended. I can't remember the last time i was offended by a comedian other than for lack of talent and yet Brand manages that with spades. It's not he's rude, it's just he ain't funny

I'll stick my oar in here an' all. I think Brand is a very funny, articulate and interesting bloke, and I enjoy reading his material, watching his stand-up etc...
I accept he did some very stupid things when he was younger and generally acted like a bit of a twat(he actually highlights all of these on one of his dvds), but I like him.
But as someone mentioned earlier, it's all personal preference...
My favourite line from the article, was the one about Iain Dowie being able to shelter from a thunderstorm under the ridge of his own eyebrows ;D
