I can't find a team on 35 points after 31 games who were relegated either Last few seasons after 31 games, teams who were eventually relegated, where they were after 31 games and the points they had at that point. Figure in brackets after the season/year is the points that would have kept them up at the end of the season: 07/08 (37) 15th Reading 31pts 17th Brum 27pts 20th Derby 10pts ;D 06/07 (39) 17th Sheff Utd 31pts 18th Charlton 30pts 20th Watford 20pts 05/06 (35) 17th Brazil 27pts 19th Brum 25pts 20th Sunderland 11pts 04/05 (34) 17th Saints 27pts 19th Palace 26pts 20th Norwich 20pts 03/04 (34) 18th Leicester 28pts 19th Leeds 28pts 20th Wolves 24pts 02/03 (43) 18th West Ham 30pts 19th Brazil 21pts 20th Sunderland 19pts Conclusions?? Difficult to say but looking at the history, it would take some collapse by us and some resurgence from ALL the teams below us for us to be relegated this season, especially if we win on Saturday.

If we beat Newcastle then we will be 9 pts clear of them, given their remaining fixtures and current form I really can’t see them getting 9 pts – can’t see them winning a match at the mo – we will have to wait and see if Shearer’s magic wand works... For me Sunderland are the worst team in the prem; based on games I have seen - they are going to struggle. I hope Hull can pull clear, but it’s looking bad for them – they can’t buy a win at the moment. Think a few teams in the bottom half will be praying for a Stoke win this weekend – for a change When we beat the toon we will have enough points – we can then put our feet up and enjoy the rest of the season. I have said all along that we will finish in the top half of the table – it’s inevitable
Shock prediction - Middlesborough to survive

You can see how the run-in shapes up as the season comes to an end here: footballstats.sportinglife.com/dom/ENG/PR/runin.htmlBased on the form of the last 8 games and current points totals, we'll finish 12th. IF we beat Newcastle, I think another point after that will see us safe. I can't see that many teams below us reaching 39 points or more in 6 or 7 games. I still won't be resting on my laurels until we're mathematically safe though. It is feasible that we've had a good mini-run and won't win another game until the end of the season. I reckon we'll finish 14th or 15th, but if we keep the recent run going we could be very close to the top 10.
