I'm for Hangeland too, even if i'm not sure i can spell his name.
Boswinga would have been in with a shout if he'd managed to keep up with his 2008 form for the whole season.

Just out of interest, if Gerrard does win it (and he's been excellent this year), will we get the song on dance on here about giving it to a diving, cheating shitbag that certain other players might get?

A bit of a surprise one, but I would vote for Xabi Alonso
has been instrumental for Liverpool this year and hasn't got nearly as many plaudits as Gerrard, Torres or even Mascherano. He's been consistently good and has apparently had his best ever season.

Hopefully Vidic blew it against Liverpool he had a nightmare of a game. I agree there hasn't been a truly outstanding performer this season and may well hinge on the champs league games

There's such a dearth of genuine options. Gerrard i suppose. Vidic not far off. Modric has had a good season...

And on the matter of people selecting Ryan Giggs, I'd like to point out that 'Giggsy' can't cross or pass to a team mate and is very fortunate to get into the Man Utd team.
Aside from his defensive play coming on alot, he is pedestrian and, lest we forget, has scored one more premier league goal than a certain Dave Kitson.

Modric hasn't been consistent enough, same with Ryan Giggs and a number of the other mentions. It's between Gerrard and Vidic in my opinion, but as I said earlier, I'd like to see Alonso get it

I'm pleased to see that I'm not the only one that thinks there have been very few truely exceptional personal performances this season. I would have to go along with Gerrard for his many excellent performances this season but he HAS been inconsistent and was regularly getting subbed not so long ago. It just grieves me, as I said earlier, that there must be players who have been ultra consistent for their clubs this season who won't even get a mention because they don't play for the top 4. Its crazy! You don't have to play for the best clubs to be the best player. Rooney and Ronaldo have both been very 'in and out' this season but I KNOW for certain that they will figure in the betting. Pathetic! If it HAS to be a United player, please make it Van der Saar. I could live with that.

Van der Sar's a good shout - 1300 or so minutes without conceding is pretty impressive.

Van der Sar's a good shout - 1300 or so minutes without conceding is pretty impressive. Only thing about that is, how many saves/catches etc did VDS make in that run? If the defense is spotless, then a keeper doesn't have to do much

True but I don't want Vidic to win it after his last few games and marde arse antics and IMHO Ferdinand is SHIT! VDS deserves it for having to play behind him.

I repeat. IN MY OPINION, Ferdinand is shit! What are you basing that on though Doz, given that he's had about three fairly flawless seasons over the last three years?

It's all about opinions rob. Yes the tone of my post was a bit mischievous (can't spell) and 'shit' is a bit strong but the reputation that some players get for (in my opinion) doing an average job grates on me. I have always considered him an 'average' player and that really is my honest opinion. I don't agree about the 'flawless seasons' and, because I think his reputation is massively greater than his abilities and performances, I have watched him closely in recent years. His positional sense is awful but, because he is quick, he manages to get 'last ditch' vital tackles in. But these are tackles he shouldn't need to make but he does because he 'wanders away from his covering position so often. His heading is incredibly poor for a central defender and he fails to 'pick up his man' with alarming regularity. I though that the centre of Man u's defence was extremely dodgy until Vidic came along and then they suddenly improved 100% (Strange that isn't it?).
In my opinion Vidic is an excellent defender and a 'God Send' to Ferdinand. Your right, he's not shit. he is average (IMHO).
