It should be Ab Faye, ...but its likely to be a top 4 player so relaistically it must be.... Steven Gerrard....head and shoulders above everyone this season

George Best:
Even with:
Too many years on the clock
A man-functioning liver
A massive hangover
AND the fact that he's DEAD
He's still twice the player Ronaldo is.

It WILL go to Gerrard or one of the United players (probably depends who wins the title). But, as ever, others worthy of the title won't get anywhere near it. It seems you have to be with the most successful teams to be the best player??????????
If you don't play for any of the top 4/5 you haven't got a hope.
Personally, I don't know who I'd put forward but I don't think that there has been anyone who has been consistently outstanding this season. Gerrard has been excellent in parts and so has Vidic. Ronaldo has been fairly ordinary this season and so has Rooney. But I'll bet anyone who wants to take it that they both 'feature' (as if to prove my earlier point). Giggs has been excellent but hasn't played all that often and, if forced to go for a United player, I'd probably give it to Van Der Saar (which says a lot about United this season in itself).
It is the poorest season I can remember for individual performances and I know I'll almost certainly disagree with the result.
JESUS, I'm a miserable bastard at times!

This is exactly what I was alluding to. The above two suggestions are perfectly feasible as both have played starring roles for their clubs this season. But will they get near it? Will they F..k
Cahill is a fair shout because he has 'carried ' Everton whilst they've had no strikers available and scored vital goals for them. I hate the little shit but he HAS had a good season.
Hangeland also has been excellent but hey, a Fulham player for player of the season? Fat chance.
It isn't just those two who you may, or may not, agree with. The point is, if you don't play for the top 4, it doesn't matter how outstanding you are, you will never get the recognition.

I reckon that they should have a European player of the year which then discounts the top 4 and then have a domestic player of the year. It would stop all the top 4 teams players winning it and give a player who's been an ever present in a non top 4 team. For example Kevin Davies or someone like that.
