Born in Aberdeen. Lived all over the place. Nearest I've lived to Stoke is now, live in Sheffield. Did most of my growing up doon south near Cambridge. Dad's from Longton/Trentham. When I was old enough to care, asked him who I should support. He said Stoke. Job done. That would have been about 15 years ago. 2nd team Aberdeen, but it just doesn't matter like Stoke does. Weird how it happens isn't it.
For the record, my dad couldn't give two f***s about footy, it's just the team his mates supported and dragged him along to a couple of games when he was a youth.

Born in Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria. Never lived in Stoke and have no relatives there, i support Stoke through my dad, who became a Stoke fan 30 odd years ago through his friend who followed Gordon Banks ( not in a stalking sort of way ) and he supported Stoke through that. Ive followed Stoke all my life, and regularly get asked this question. To me you don't have to support your local team, people can be dedicated fans to a club, and have no logical reason for supporting them. The beauty of being a Stoke fan is that nobody can accuse me of being a gloryhunter ;D

Born and bred in Dublin. My aul fella is a Stoke fan and thats where it came from. Not the usual glory-hunting shite following Dublin family either, one of my uncles follows Everton and another Derby!
My 1st game was against Wycombe in the old 2nd division, how times have changed since then! I have been to 5-6 games a season since but only 1 this season and it was the Citeh game, slightly differnt experince seeing Beats up front rather then the superstars like Lightbourne and Iwelumo(well he was shite for us!!!) First time i have been to a full Brit and the atmosphere didnt dissappoint, coming over for the Boro and Wigan matches and cant fucking wait!
Hasnt been plain sailing following us and no doubt this season will be the same and it will go down to the last kick of the last game before we are safe but i wouldnt swap it for any other team in the world!!!

No connection with Stoke on trent at all. Born and bread in Leeds but as a little kid liked Banksie so followed City in the early 70s as a gloryhunter really. Now about 35 years later the wife and I are season ticket holders and have not missed a game for over 5 years and only missed a handful in about 10 years since the kids grew up.

No connection with Manchester at all. Born and bred in Stoke but as a little kid liked Besty so followed United in the early 70s as a gloryhunter really. Now about 35 years later the wife and I are Old Trafford season ticket holders and have not missed a game for over 5 years and only missed a handful in about 10 years since the kids grew up. This is the kind of thing I was talking about earlier in the thread. Okay, obviously I've doctored leedsstokie's post but just imagine if we read something like that from a Stoke resident. People would be setting up vigilante groups to track down this scum of the earth... By the way, leedsstokie, unlike bassmaster earlier in the thread it is not my opinion that you are a gloryhunter - I like your story and I think it's great that you're a Stoke fan. My point is more that we're very harsh on supporters of other teams who have effectively the same story as yours.

I've never lived in Stoke, but my Dad's Stoke born and bred. I've lived my whole life in Cheshire or Derbyshire not too far from Stoke though, and I consider myself a Stokie at heart.

If I am a gloryhunter then Im not very good at it am I? Its just a childhood thing that stuck just like most of the Man Utd fans you refer to. Surely its a free choice for anyone, I know a few fans who have changed from one team to another as adults. Now thats wrong and could be questioned.

Right, born East Sussex, now live in Somerset, no connection with Stoke on Trent at all. Dad (GRHS) didn't follow football. Played football at school and was goalie (best place to get muddy). Best goalie ever was Gordon Banks and my surname is Gordon. Banksie played for Stoke, so I support Stoke and we were good then! So you could probably call me a gloryhunter, only go 2 or 3 times a season. But my Son also born in East Sussex is a Stokie and has been all his life but he is 13 so he technicaly can't be called a gloryhunter because there was no glory to hunter when he was younger. BTW he comes with me when I can afford to go. And we both have the current away shirt and like it. That's dedication for you!!

Born Tunstall, lived in grandparents house for 18 months, they were vale fans but me dad who is a stokie moved us out to castle. But when I was 21 came to Cyprus and I'm still has crazy about Stoke. If we do stay up it would surely cure the 24 yr of hurt I've had over here. Proud to a Potter.

We used to travel from Harlow in Essex to my uncles house in Stoke and he would take me too see Stoke play (1969). He told me this was the greatest team in the world as we had the greatest goalkeeper and I was 7 and believed him, so that was me hooked.
Years later I found out he was not my uncle but my dads old army mate. Technically my local team was Spurs. But I have travelled and supported Stoke since 1969 and love every minute of it.
And one day I will live in Stoke when I retire and watch every game smoking a big fat cigar riding my motorbike drinking whiskey and tell every away fan that they are bankers woo hoo
