Remember Leigh Jenkinson of Hull City 'think it was Hull City' once tearing us apart many moons ago. Couldn't live with him on that night and if memory serves me correct he bagged a brace in a 3.1 defeat at the old Victoria ground. Anymore?. Was trying to remember this blokes name before opening the post. He was very quick, think we were linked with him but nothing happened. Didn't he go to Coventry or somewhere like that ?

Mark Chamberlain was the fastest winger in a Stoke shirt that I have seen. I remember a game against Liverpool at the Vic. Chambo ran away from Souness and as he was bearing down on goal Souness tried to hack him down, but failed miserably. At that time there was a great chant from the Boothen End. "We're so good its unbelievable". We are not ready to revive that one yet!

Chambo ran at the 'Pool back 4- Bruce G saved the shot and Ian Painter scored from the rebound. Colin Russel scored the second with a scuffed free kick second half and we won 2-0. Good call above. Do think Chamberlain's best game was his debut v Arsenal when we won 2-1 ( Berry and O'Callaghan) and he completely destroyed Kenny Sansom all game.

Agree with you re: Chambo's debut, finest display of wing play I've seen in a long time. His efforts v Luton also deserve a mention, how he ever crossed that ball from that angle for the goal I'll never know.

I remember Chambo at West Ham. Stoke broke following a corner and Chambo received the ball in his own half and just sprinted in a straight line for the West Ham goal. He left fat Frank's Dad for dead and as he approached the penalty area he steadied himself before shooting. The ball cannoned off the right hand post for a goal kick!
The most amazing thing was that the home fans went deadly quiet as he ran with the ball before erupting into a cheer of relief as the ball bounced wide. For those games when he was fit, he was the quickest Stoke player I have seen in the modern age.
That game is also noted for a wonder own goal by Bouldy. He lobbed his own keeper (Foxy I think) from way out on the touch line. Final score 1 -1 (if my memory serves me correctly)

LOL Marc Overmars!!
There is a part in Dean Windass's autobigraphy about when at Bradford in his 1st PL season he was right side of a midfield 3 and he marked Henry for 75 mins and was fucking knackered then he saw the substitions board and the 4th official was telling Henry he was being subbed and Deano being chuffed cos he was fucked only for Marc Overmars to take his place. ;D

Mark Chamberlain every time. The buzz that went round the ground every time he got the ball was unique in my time watching Stoke. Exactly what I was going to say! I always thought TC was fairly quick, unless my memory tricks me Be fantastic if we could unearth another Chambo sometime soon.

walcott is at a different level in sprinting stakes. remember trevor sinclair as a kid for blackpool, stripping our defence apart at the vic, think it was the season of our longest unbeaten run Remember this all to well! Turned up expecting our flying high team to put Blackpool to the sword but got our arse torn out by Sinclair. Everytime they got the ball the just passed it him and he just ran us ragged. How it stayed 1-0 I don't know!

On his day Ricky Otto had a fair burst of speed in his legs. I can remember him scoring for Orient in front of the Boothen End and many supporters actually applauding. i remember this, did they do the double over us and he scored in both games, i remember the away game cause the ball got stuck between the post and crossbar

Paul Maguire lol............... I remember Mark Chamberlain when he took the division by storm, no one could keep up with him, the question was asked of him of how he was going to cope with the flying tackles now that he'd made a name for himself, he just smiled and said "i'll just have to jump higher", what a waste of talent!!!

Fastest for recentley has to be ex-Chelsea winger Jesper Gronkjaer, when we lost in the fifth round of the FA Cup at the Britannia Stadium on 15 February 2003; Chelsea won 0-2 with second-half goals from Jimmy-Floyd Hasselbaink and Jesper Gronkjaer. He skinned Wayne thomas and tore down the flank & let loose a cracker of a goal

Yep Mark Chamberlain in his first season - truly electric pace - just push the ball round the full back and race after it - no one - but NO ONE could catch him !
I can remember him giving Kenny Sansom -(the current england fullback at the time) a real nightmare at the Vic closely followed by an away night match at Man city where, poor old Bobby Macdonald (ex of coventry) and a senior pro was given the task of Marking 'our Mark'.
Suffice to say, its the only time I can ever recall a fullback being so totally mesmerised by a winger to the extent that he was substiuted only half way through the first half !
These amazing performances continued until his hamstrings gave out under the strain and the poor lad was never the same.
The crys rang out though - CHAMMBERLAIN, CHAMBERLAIN, CHAMMMBER LAIN !!!! to colonel bogey or whatever it was

In the Liverpool picture, look how uneven the pitch looks.
Check out the tongue on Hudson's boots.

I agree with Millbeck, for Stoke Jimmy Robertson was the fastes I can remember, all the more impressive as he came at the end of his career. But in nearly 40 years of watching the fastes over 50 yards I ever saw was Laurie Cunningham (RIP) it was like watching a sports car accelerate

For Stoke: Chamberlain
Ever?: Probably Wallcott, fast but offered no real option this season against us I felt.

Calle del Haye (Borussia Monchengladbach) in the midseventies - incredible pace, but couldn't cross. Always ended up running the ball over the line.
For Stoke: Mark Chamberlain or Terry Conroy
