We were awful that day v Blackpool- Sinclair did look the part. If I remember rightly we won at Vale Park 2-0 a few days later.
Bamber wasn't a winger though.Just a clumsy centre forward although he did get 9 goals one season and had a bit of a purple patch for a few games- hard to believe I kinow. Had a remarkable resemblance to Jonah Lewie as well- played a bit like him also

Mark Chamberlain every time. The buzz that went round the ground every time he got the ball was unique in my time watching Stoke.

Mark Walters was a bit quick and had bags of skill, not sure if he was as quick as Chambo though

Overmars was lightening, he was fast as hell. He played that nil nil at the vic didn't he? Walcott made everyone else look like they were in slow motion, pace to burn that lad. Can't think of any speedy Stokies down the wing in my time, certainly Rooster Russell sadly had no pace but did score one hell of a goal at Blackpool in the rain . Matty seems to be quick off the mark but then many premiership full backs seem to have equal pace, apart from ours ofcourse

Junior Bent, had a 65 minute loan game with us when Torquay beat us 1-0 about 1992. He was quick but completely shite!

Remember Leigh Jenkinson of Hull City 'think it was Hull City' once tearing us apart many moons ago. Couldn't live with him on that night and if memory serves me correct he bagged a brace in a 3.1 defeat at the old Victoria ground. Anymore?. leigh jenkinson is the first name that popped in my head when i saw the title of this thread as a young lad it was hard seeing my team torn to bits by him that day!

Mark Chamberlain, without a doubt. I can hear the Boothen at the Vic. chanting "Give eet eem, give eet eem" as soon as Stoke were in possesion of the ball, You could guarantee he would beat anyone between him & the far bye-line & then deliver a brilliant cross. By far the best right-winger at the Vic. since Sir Stan.

can't beleive nobody has said Thierry Henry, he sarted out as a winger with Juventus before Wenger turned him into a forward.
A young Ryan Giggs was fast aswell.

page 2 & we havnt mentioned Bomber Sheldon yet? pure pace? yes Goodfellow & Carr Will never forget seeing Bomber at a preseason game at Llanidloes Town FC in Mid Wales. He kept skipping past their midfied and left back like they weren't there. Possibly some of the funniest moments ever seen on a football pitch, the home crowd were loving it and even cheered him on in the end. The left back just kept shrugging his shoulders ....what can I do ....he's too quick to kick.

Matthews was nowhere near the fastest footballer ever- get a grip. Sorry to disagree Soi, but Stan was just that. He first became famous when he was entered for the North Midlands athletics events which took place on the cinder track around the pitch at the Victoria Ground. One of the events was a sprint. Stan won it at the age of 8 years against adults unbelievably and went on to retain the title for a number of years. The Olympic team were interested in him, but he had become a professional by then and was ineligible. When he scored the goal that clinched promotion in 1963, the TV pictures have been analysed because Stan seems to be moving at twice the speed of other players on the pitch. His sprint from the half way line is unbelievable and he was nearly 50 years of age on a glue pot pitch. I think you will find that Stan was one of the greatest athletes this country ever produced and his acceleration and top speed were legendary. Had he not played football there is little doubt that he would have found fame as an Olympic gold medalist. I am amazed that we are discussing other footballers when our greatest son was the quickest of all time.

Aaron Lennon's got to be up there surely. That lad's rapid and good with the ball at his feet as well. I'd just love to see Lennon, Young, Walcott and Agbonlahor in the England line-up someday. Imagine playing against those!!

Harry Burrows Eddie Gray Peter Barnes Trevor Francis (as a teenager) Kevin Sheldon ( he was quick!)
Probably be Chamberlain for me, based on players I have seen.

Ok March take it back. Maybe the black and white footage doesn't do justice. Don't worry, some of us are old enough to remember him. Imagine Christiano Ronaldo without the poor temperament and with lightning speed and you're starting to see how good Stan was. He changed the way the game was played by using his pace to beat defenders. At the time some felt it was cheating and he was heaviliy criticised in his early career for being so unsporting (they want to see what goes on today). Stan was so fair, he would wait for the full back to catch up so he could beat him again ;D

Walcott is fastest I've seen.
Next is definitely Mark Chamberlain, and he could also cross it at speed as well. Had Chambo stayed fit and kept his pace which was asolutely frightening he would have been a world star and a Stoke City legend.

Jimmy Robertson was quick...
Quote from a Spurs website:
"The memories of Jimmy are of a fast direct winger with incredible pace who gave all-out effort and who did not shirk a challenge. He was good to watch as his speed and play was exciting and he was capable of so much, including a hard shot and mazy runs. It is incredible to think that we once had both Jimmy and Cliff Jones In the same team. Were there ever a faster pair of wingmen?"
