Overrated by Manchester Utd, Real Madrid and AC Milan, three of the biggest teams in the world. The team is picked on form by Cappello. That's why Beckham is in it. The game has changed since Moore's day, is it his fault that substitutions have been brought in and that more games are played today? No, the game has changed, and Beckham is worthy of his caps. No, overrated as part of a team that was supposedly the "golden generation" and ended up winning nowt. Bechams appearances are also full of meaningless friedlies, moreso than Booby Moore's day. If you're suggesting that Beckham is a better player in a game that is better then I have to disagree. In saying this, Beckham has a good right foot and a good engine, that's about it. When it mattered most (WC 1998) he and his fellow teamates failed to step up to the plate. World class...nah, don't think so. Also huddy 98 was not down to one player just as the 66 cup final was not down to BM for like JH for his hatrick.

What an absolute load of wank ! Beckham has been and still is one of England best performers from since when and has single handed held the England team together. As players have already stated(our own D Smith) have admitted that they would struggle with the modern game. I hope David goes on and beats Shiltons record he is an absolute legend. And fat Frank must pinch himself when he gets picked. Err..I'm entitled to my opinion thank you and your rose tinted vision of DB and the your assertion that he is the best among the others only underlines my assertion that this England side have the tag of the greatest...underachievers that is. I think quarter-finals with the occasional foray into the Semis is England's level.

So WC 98 was a let down - out of interest, what players in the modern game ARE world class?? and 2002 AND 2006 I don't believe any English players are truly world class, to be that you have to be a winner on a world stage.

Beckham has been a great servant to England and to 3 of the top sides in the World. I doubt very much you can do that, for such a lengthy career, without being considerably better than "overrated". Do you really think these top managers can have had the wool pulled over their eyes, for so long?? I'll stick with Ferguson, Capello and Ancelloti's opinion, rather than Alan forkin Green's, if you don't mind.
Well done Beckham, earned every cap you've won in my opinion and it's hardly your fault that there are so many games in the modern era.

Can you truly say that Beckham is better/equal to Moore? Your quite right Huddy perhaps my first part was a little ott on my first post, but can you say that Moore is better than Beckham the answer is no IMHO we did used to think (my self included) that we (England) should beat everyone and i know its not the case now,but IMHO down the years Beckham has been head and shoulders above anyone else over that period of time.

Fully deserves 108 caps and more.

RVD I'd prefer a jam sandwich any day ;-)
Beckham fully deserves his caps and on the basis of how he played tonight, Huddysleftfoot you might have to watch him put some daylight between his and Moore's caps. Enjoy!

Enjoy! I don't believe I have written anywhere that he doesn't deserve them. He should get more caps than Moore, he gets to play more games, that's the logic. He's a better than average player in a poor team, so yes, well done DB.

And Paul Gascoigne was a far more talented player than Beckham is.
But What Beckham lacked in talent he's compensated for with application. The application all players need to fulfill their potential. Because he lacked perserverance Gazza wasted his talent. He'd dispute that but look at what he won and his incredible ability could have got a lot more.

As for the England set-up .....I couldn't give a flying toss anymore.
They wouldn't even win a Home International competition...Absolutely bog average.
The best paid excuses for football players in the World bar none....£50,000 a week + at least per man. It's immoral.....and to make matters worse we even have to employ foreign coaches to manage our National game.
It would never have happened during the War....Can you imagine Eva Braun running the Womens Land Army...? Or Rudolf Hess running the R.A.F....!
CAPELLO OUT...
PULIS IN.

good on him.
Hes said he wouldnt compare himself to Bobby Moore, him moving back to millan and seeing his attitude and willingness last night has boosted my opinion of him abit, shows he wants to play football rather than just fade away.
"No-one can be compared to Bobby Moore because he's such a legend, he's a player I will always look up to as our World Cup winner, our World Cup-winning captain. I'm just very honoured to be even be mentioned in the same breath as him.
I hope to keep on playing for my country. Of course I do, fitness-wise Milan's done me the world of good. I'm a lot fitter than I was a few months back and even in the month and a half I've been there my fitness has gone up 100%. That's the biggest thing. And I'm enjoying my club football which is great"

And on the subject of Downing, if he's considered good enough by Capello, then Matty Etherington can't be far away from winning a cap. Shall we start a campaign. Etherington for England! maybe also Beattie for England Shawcross for England/England U21's Shotton for England U21's Cresswell for England ;D
