Abd Faye is immense but, for me, Higginbotham was also quality in that position (albeit in a division below). What about Sonko?

Sergie Shtaniuk, what a player.

Shtaniuk was great, as was/is Higgy, as was Paul Williams, but if Ab Faye carries on he will take the mantle.

Overson was a legend, but i think in terms of skill (bear in mind the difficulty of opposition we face today) i think Abdy just edges it.
and i wouldn't want to be the one to tell him any different

shtaniuk was good to many red and yellow cards 4 me in a short amount of time but was a fantastic defender, siggursson was alright

I think AD needs to be here at least 3 years before he can be compared with the lengends like Overson and Shtaniuk. Now it is defo alot to do with him playing alongside the beast of AD but Shawcross has been immense in the last few weeks and that partnership could turn into one of the best we have ever had, add to that Higgy and Kelly and we are looking pretty solid at the back

I'm reserving judgement until after I've seen Cresswell play there at the weekend!

Bloody hell...this is a tough one as we've been blessed with some great CBs in recent years.
I can't believe no one has mentioned Lárus Sigurðsson yet? I thought he was class, but then we've had Shtaniuk, Overson, Cranson, Faye this year and I agree Shawcross (if we keep hold of him) will be mentioned in the future when we talk about great CBs down Stoke. Then Higginbotham was playing so well there as well before he left but for me to be classed as a great I think you need to put in at least 3 years minimum.
All great CBs and I don't think I could really pick one out of them lot. I pretty sure I'm forgetting a couple as well but at the moment I can't think....

Sergei, Gerry, Overson, Higgy... we've had some terrific CBs but if they can get another couple of seasons together and an even better rapport, Ab and Ryan should become the very best imo. And they're doing it against some of best strikers on earth.

Cresswell will be right back u2ox! Then keep Kelly out of the side, you should know how it works by now!!!
More recently Riggott, who came at a dodgy time for us and did really well.

really you would have to say Faye because although the previous players were very good they were playing at a lower level, how do you know if they would have mae the step up?!?

Adby is by far the best considering the level we are now playing at - i feel Vin or Crano would be way off the pace in this league - but when they were here they were legends.

ab faye is possibly the best iv'e seen in a stoke shirt for many years and shawcross is only going to benefit from playing alongside him.

Abdy, he is performing in the best League in the world.
With the greatest of respect to some of the other wonderful players mentioned, they played for us against some mediocre opposition.

In terms of influence, Gerry is the one. Before he arrived we were awful, he arrives we start winning. He goes back, we drop off, he comes back and we start winning again!
Plus, he was so hard and took it from nobody!
GERRY! GERRY! GERRY! GERRY!

Faye, no question - the only one who's done it at the top level. Overson, Cranson et al were decent, but at a lower level. CCC and League1 is a country mile behind where we are now.
