Good god I hope not. We need a fox in the box not a poor mans Crouch. H That's 15 goals a season. What's wrong with that for a second striker?? Edit - Nice edit ;D

Stead had a great start to his Blackburn career, he was scoring for fun, and then the goals dried up and he's not really been prolific since, he's definitely a player in the Pulis mould, wouldn't surprise me if we're interested, i think Pulis has tried to sign him once before.

He's no better than Cresswell IMHO. Like I said if we are gettinga new striker, lets have one who is a bit tricky with pace.
Bogus I edited the stats as I don't trust the source, I'll check and put them back on when I'm sure they are correct.

What kind of striker would Pulis go for to partner Fuller though?
I think we're dreaming if we think any new signing isn't going to be a big physical targetman type.
Surely, at the very least, it'd be a real workhorse like Stead.
To be fair to Cresswell, he works really hard and is okay in the air.
But you can't see Pulis straying far from someone who primarily is a physical targetman who hopefully would score at least a few more than Mama?
People like Howard and Gray who've recently gone for big bucks?
That would seem to rule out potentially attractive targets like David Connolly.
I'm not sure what he hoped to achieve by gambling on Parkin, as he offers neither hard work or the attributes of a proper targetman. He's very poor in the air and as immobile as they come. He's almost a Teddy Sheringham trapped inside the body of Geoff Capes.
Did he briefly contemplate changing the way we played should the Parkin signing come off?

He's almost a Teddy Sheringham trapped inside the body of Geoff Capes. ;D So true, I'd love a box fox but we all know now what type of players he likes, so Stead seems a banker of a target to me.
And, if we're going to get one of his ilk, Stead (on form) is a very decent option it seems to me.

You're underestimating Stead. He's quite good with a ball at his feet and running at people.

On balance (i.e. once you stop dreaming about Harewood etc), me too.
He's right down the slot.
He's big, Prem on the CV and scores a few.
Wonder what sort of cash he'd be?
If Whelan is anything to go by, it could be anything between £750k (loss to get rid) to £3m+ (profit to appease the fans who actually quite like him).
The former and we'll be in there i hope.

Wouldn't be a terrible signing. If we can't get the likes of Harewood / Earnshaw, he would do a job and IF he did score the goals that got us into the Premiership, it would be money well spent. It is plain to see that we need another striker.

we;ve been linked with worse players in fact in Vince we have one who is ten times worse and he actually gets the odd game for us. He isn't prolific but if came and scored 6 betwenn now and May that would be prolific by the standards of the other three this season.

Onner: very, very.
Potters & Ted: exactly - bird in the hand issue (not that we "have" Stead by any means but i would rather have him now (plus I don't think he's that bad either actually) than miss out on a "very close" missed signature for Marlon or that goofyWelsh fella on the 31st.

Why would we want to replace one of three forwards we have at present who couldn't hit a cows arse with another who possibly couldn't even hit Porkin's?
Doesn't make sense to me!

O.K., if "Are you robbing a bank? Oh, then why have you got a stocking over your head?" man (Dowie) doesn't sign him & we get close, we obviously need a poll:
Who thinks Stead is wank?
Who doesn't?

I remember the Sunderland Echo said Pulis had enquired about him on deadline day a couple of years ago (I think it may have been before he went to Derby on loan?). So it could be that he's a player that he sees a role for?
