A couple of Championship clubs have made tenative enquiries/bids for Stead but Robbo is reluctant to let him leave - although he doe'snt seem to rate 6ft + black TP-style player Luton Shelton....perhaps a loan deal approch for Shelton would be more apt?

Well, with Ricardo, Demar and soon to be Rudolph Austin we are developing a bit of a Jamaican enclave at Stoke, so maybe Shelton (he even has a local name ;D) is worth a look?

Indeed, i think this is the "untapped market " (or whatever he called it) so enigmatically recently when talking about Prem survival etc!

I remember watching Shelton playing really well at Old Trafford on Sky. I think it was his debut last year. Seemed to be amazingly fast and pretty strong. Shelton I think I read somewhere that he and Fuller don't particularly see eye-to-eye. But the Sheff U fans now seem to think he's a bit of a joke, a bit annoying when you've shelled out well over £1m on him.

I remember that United game, he played very well, unlucky not to get a penalty when he was clearly brought down by a United player.

I certainly wouldn't mind seeing Stead here. We can't go on relying on Fuller's goals until the end of the season, despite admirable contributions from Cresswell, Lawrence, Cort and Shawcross. We need another frontman who can get double figures.
A loan deal until the end of the season would be good, then if it doesn't work out, we're still quids in. I think he'd be perfect for us, we know TP has good motivation skills and can get the best out of people who have lost their way a bit of lost confidence. I mean Bryan Robson isn't the most inspirational manager in the world, despite being a great player!

Mmm, a big, black, fookin useless forward eh?
No, actually, we really need to pass on another one, thanks all the same clam.
I bet Colin doesn't go back there sniffin for Shelton ahead of going back for Stead.

On the contrary FullerMagic, Blades Fans don't regard Shelton as a figure of mirth,i n fact he is viewed in the way that a few Stokies see Parkin - skillful player who doesn't fit into the way that his team plays (Luton is like Mama in that he holds the ball up but is way more skillful and can score goals). Blades are disappointed that he hasn't had the chance to show what he can do as he's always asked to play in a system that doesn't allow him to be effective a'la Parkin when he's asked to play the Sidibie role....
Like I said before, might be worth a loan deal as I know he is on a very good wage (that Stoke will be reluctant to pay if the deal was permanent) and that Clueless Robbo will have been told by the board to recoup some of the cash shelled (Clam-pun #1)out on him by Colin if he doesn't see him as part of his plans....

Clam, I was just judging the fan feeling based on a thread on your board. You'd think there'd always be some use for someone with his electric pace.
I thought he looked to be someone who'd be complemented by a targetman, rather than play the hold-up role?
We've already got a fast, skilful foil for a targetman - and I'd assume Pulis is looking for a big, strong Sidibe/ Wayne Allison ;D type.
* Thing is no-one's going to take Shelton and Horse because they're on big money and both are crap. We're probably realising that we're now heading for financial trouble, largely based on the awful performances and the BT signing and have to start raising money somehow.
*I seem to remember saying that it would be very difficult to unload Shelton and that seems to be the case. He's not a known player in this country and isn't even getting games to put himself in the shop window. I can see him going back to Sweden or wherever he came from for £500K but we're hardly fighting off bids.
# Shelton Should Be Loaned Out To a Div 1 club to get some experience in the English game - otherwise just cancel his contract and take the loss. He seems to have no inherent value without scoring goals. I remember watching him before the MK Dons match and he could not hit the target. There was no keeper, just the goal. It was embarassing.
* I notice Warnock isn't rushing in for him, surprising considering how he talked him up last season as a star of the future.
*"difficult to unload Shelton"
I hope someone, somewhere is about to make Cool Runnings II

Can see what you're saying FullerMagic but what you must remember is that messageboards don't necessarily represent the views of the majority (remember all the anti/pro Pulis bumf on the old board with HudsonNob, ASGF etc and the ensuing silence when things picked up?). Of what I've seen of Shelton from his limited appearances in the prem under Colin and this year, I reckon that he would do a job for us - imagine Mama minus his faults/weaknesses (can't score etc) and add pace. If we had him (Shelton) up front with Fuller (not in the Mama role) and played the way we have to when Mama isn't available, I think that the front line would be more effective than with Fuller accompanied with Crezza....Just a thought like.
BTW - I'm not a Blade, I'm a Potter and just happen to work for them...

Clamshells:
If that is indeed the case:
"imagine Mama minus his faults/weaknesses (can't score etc) and add pace."
i.e. he can do all that Mama can & can score, then he would be quite a player? Which begs the question, why hasn't he played more really?
I do remember Colin signing him & giving it the "raw talent / one for the future etc" comments.

Personally speaking that the way things are currently progressing then i very much doubt that a striker "whilst it be good if we were able to get cover" would be at the top of TP's list.
In my opinion a striker is not our main priority and i would be very surprised if TP was not of the same conclusion.

Could be true, lately he has been coming on to the left wing and joining in up front - sound familiar?

Last season we were about 3 goals off play offs, he could be the man to tap in those 3 goals this time.

Being impartial, "mystical", i think it's fair to say he's improved a little since then.
He would bag us a few - i'd expect a Cressy / Lawrence type return over a full season (@ccc anyway).
Very much what we need now.
& domsmith is right, even three, if they are the right three would be priceless*
*Well, worth about £60m anyway.
