If he keeps performing consistently well as he did against Chelsea then he's certainly getting towards it.

Certainly TP's best buy i reckon, but for me i'll always have a soft spot for Peter Fox and fond memories of Neville "Big Boned" Southall... and Grobelar! Jeez!

I have no fucking fond memories of that lard arse Southall!! He is up there with Gordon Marshall as one of the worst ever goalkeepers to curse this beloved club of ours. For me, Mark Crossley is still the best keeper we've had down here in recent years. His contribution in keeping us up that season is immeasurable! I always thought Jason Kearton was a decent keeper too...

Going back as long as I do, the best was Gordon Banks, but of course Gordon is in my opinion the best goalkeeper this country has ever produced,John Farmer, Peter Fox,Mark Crossley (On loan) were very good too,but I would say Sorro is as good as these with Simmo not to far behind. I like the way Sorro commands his area, this is where he surpasses Simmo for me.

What happened to Scott Barrett ?
I don't remember him doing much wrong and recall him having a blinder at Liverpool in the cup replay.
Not saying he was a world beater, just a question this thread provoked.

We've been blessed with some fantastic keepers over the years, Banksie has to be head and shoulders above the rest but in the short time he's been here Soro is already up there with Farmer, Fox and Crossley (Shilton should be on that list but he just wasn't that good for us even though he kept being picked for England).

When Shilton played for us Clemence was England no.1. Shilton had been in the background since his Poland calamity. On reason Shilton left us was he said had to be in the top flight to have a chance of getting his England place back.

He is definately the best keeper we have had since Banksy.but all keepers pale into insignificance compared with Banks as he was the greatest keeper of all time in my opinion. Shilton was a poor copy of Gordon, but was never any where as good as him.

What happened to Scott Barrett ? Assistant manager at Gillingham? I think I saw him when they played Villa in the cup. Tony Parks as on of the worst ever. He even almost managed to let West Brom beat us giving them at least 2 goals if not all 3. Still with the Baggies pure football scoring 4 was never going to be a problem ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

However Tommy has potential to be on a par if he continues his form as he may make a huge contribution to keeping us up this year. Get that orange top on for Tuesday Tommy!!!!

My top three would be:
Banks - no argument about that Crossley - only a few games on loan but he was immense Sorensen - the odd mistake but an excellent keeper - certainly the best value for money!
And I think I'd put Fox at number 4
As others have said Shilton was never really that good for us - his best times came at other clubs.

Joe, I'm just too young I honestly didn't realise he'd got so few caps while he was playing for us. Still some though.

Shilton got back into favour because Ron Greenwoods ridiculously stupid policy of them taking it in turns to play.
