Thats true, I read somewhere that there are at them moment half a million vacancies available. Alton Towers for example are currently taking on around 800 jobs for next season... shit money, not a very attractive job... but it's more than 80quid every two weeks, or however much job seekers is now adays If I could afford to do this sort of job then trust me I would. I have registered on many agencies but they give most of their work to Polish etc because they will work for less and the agency makes more out of them. I understand if you have families, mortgages etc...Its not exatly ideal... But for the youngster, who maybe, have no kids, no mrtage still live at home, Theres a lot of them about...Its a perfect job for them.

Now I my upmost sympathy goes to those who have been made redundant due to the current financial climate within society however a reduction in pricing for those without a job is totally out of the question in my honest opinion. If you have no job and as such not alot of income coming in then surely you should be figuring out a way to keep yourself and/or family under a roof with food coming in each week and being able to pay the bills. I know that if I did not have a job they would be my priorities, Stoke City would be at the bottom of my list. I love Stoke and always will but if I am ever in the need where my family would need the best financial support possible then they would be my number one.
A reduction would include all those without a job? So how do the club seperate those who have been made redundant or those who have left school and just done nothing with their lifes? It would be a rather large and time unfriendly task if you ask me!

I had to sacrifice many things like going the pub now and again to be able to get my footie fix.

I had to give up a very nice well paying job (~£65,000 pa) some 9 years ago to care for my sick partner - 24 hour supervision basically.
Now we're stuck on benefits and quality of life is way down.
In the past 9 years i've managed to get to the games perhaps 4 times (2 of which were comp tickets), but it was a sacrifice that had to be made. I don't ask for concessions etc to get into games..life deals your hand and you make of it what you c an.

Many people have different circumstances. I was made redundant from the MOD so went to college to retrain as an electrician. I busted a gut going evening classes until I finally finished work. After 3 hard years I have got all my qualifications but now because of the credit crunch etc there is next to no work for a sparky with only a small amount of experience. Tomorrow I have an interview to go back to the MOD. Only this time (if I get the job) I will have to travel to Telford instead of being in Stafford. Having worked out the cash it will just about pay me to work. Unfortunately there are not many jobs about that pay a good enough wage.

I am unemployed at the moment but Gordon Brown gives me enough to pay £10 a week for my season ticket. ;D And no the wife and 4 kids don't go without either. P.S. I am looking for work but a job that only pays 6-£7 an hour and I would be worse off. At least you'll be earning that £6 or £7 an hour Plus give yourself the chance of a promotion or raise. On the dole all you'll get is rate of inflation rise and nothing else. The "i'd be worse off with a job argument" is always a very short term thing if you have half a brain and are willing to put some effort in.

I think that if you are getting more money off the government than what you would by going out to work then fair enough, anybody who can get more money by doing one thing than something else is a clever individual in my opinion. Now with work I find that your social skills go up and you are a much more respected person in the community. I know how sparse some of the jobs are around Stoke at the minute- with us being a predominately industrial town it will be hard for some time to come, with house prices being at a lower price than such years can some people afford to move to a new location to a job with a good wage? It begs the question of are we prepared for the state to pay us to live if so why are we not all doing this? I understand that people are actively seeking work and that is the best thing at the moment, keep looking, keep trying and take something that is most suitable for you. If you are not in work at the moment and are receiving money off the state then have you considered voluntary work? It can be most rewarding and it is a great item to have on a CV

I think there would inevitably be people who abuse the system.
Nice thought but it won't happen.
And as other people have pointed out, there are some working who can't afford a season ticket so are they entitled to a concession. Our season ticket prices are low for the Premiership so the club does a lot already!

Trumpton. I agree with most posts on here including yours but some like myself cant honestly afford to go to work for less than a certain amount. It is not just the money you get in your bank. They pay things like rent, council tax school meals etc. It all adds up to a fair amount of cash. I am honestly looking for a job (it really isn't easy being stuck at home) but have to make sure my family don't suffer as a consequence.

i know what you're saying stafford-stokie! I've reduced my hours at work because it would cripple us to send my 2 year old to Nursery at £500+ a month and pay for my 12 year old to get the bus to and from school every day at £60 a month. It's more financially viable for me to drop a couple of days to look after baby and get the older one to and from school (until youngest goes to school).
This government doesn't help itself with incentives to get people to actively seek work or maintain full time positions, when your overall income is reduced by doing so. That statement doesn't include people who plead poverty but refuse work, it's merely a reaction to this thread given my own families circumstances

Smeegs your right mate, I worked for myself and I broke my leg and was out of work for 4 months, my business folded I was totally broke (as was my leg)
I got a job as a security officer in a shopping centre £6.50 an hour 72 hours a week (when I worked for myself I was on £15 per hour) but hey I just worked and worked and bloody worked and it meant only 2 games per season for 3 years and for 2 years I had just enough to live on I mean just.
But now after 5 years and loads of courses and working 6 days a week 12 hours a day I manage a shopping centre and work 9-5 . So I could have gone on the dole and got loads more money, but that is not a way to live.
SO all those on the dole get off your backsides stop bleating coz I aint interested, and now I earn more money than I could have ever dreamt about, but its down to hard work giving up on luxeries and I had to move. I lost everything I owned, my g/f my home the lot.
So answer is work aaarrrrdddd study aarrrrdddd as the benefits are not from tax payers pockets but your bosses.

If the money ain't there I CANT do it. Not everyone sits on their backsides bleating mate. Some want to work but cant afford to.

I think concessions should only apply if you fit all of the following categories.
A) Work full time B) Have 2 kids c) Live in a semi in Newcastle under Lyme d) Drive a black 56' reg Vectra

At least you'll be earning that £6 or £7 an hour Agreed but I get more than that for not working so until I find a job where I make money I am happy to keep spending Gordons. ;D I think you'll find that you aren't spending Gordons as you put it but you are spending the tax paid by honest working folk. And as for the I cant afford to work argument, to me that simply means that state handouts are far too generous and should be drastically cut. Not in a time of recession when many will find themselves in need of as much help as is possible, but as soon as it is over and there are jobs to be had.

SOME of you should be ashamed. Many hard-working people are losing their jobs through no fault of their own. Many fellow Stokies have lost their jobs at JCB, Wedgewood, Woolies, etc. It saddens me how little sympathy people have. I have only ever been on the dole for a month in fifty years but it is a pittance. I suggest anyone who thinks benefits are generous gives up work and signs on - see how generous they think it is then.

have we lost the thread a bit point is even if Scholes does offer concessions, it would more realistically be '£5 discount on a 10 game multi buy' type scheme. No brainer, really

I can see both sides of this argument. For me being out of work was never an option, I cannot sit at home waiting for handouts what sort of man is that?
Biggest problem is people get set in their ways, and you have to sometimes make sacrifices. I live in Dagenham and it once had a thriving Ford plant like Stoke had the potteries, but all that is gone and the people of Dagenham always complaining there is no work, but you ask them to travel 25 minutes by tube to London, they answer I aint travelling all the way to London for work I live here and work should be here.
The last statement is true 40 years ago but times change either you change with them or you get left behind. Dubai Stokie is a great example of this and he probably is a damn high earner but would he have been a high earner waiting for Handouts!!!!

Theres some sanctimonious tossers on here. The original poster asked a valid question about something that Stoke used to offer.
Unfortunately it provokes a load of rhetoric from fuckers who are in work and smugly like to slag those of who are less fortunate at this moment in time.
Long may you continue in work gentlemen because if the financial climate catches up with you and you didnt see it coming, you too may be relegated to the growing band of dole scummers, scroungers, tossers or any other offensive term that is applied to those genuinely unfortunateenough to be out of work.
Your attitude is very much akin to the modern day supporter who forgets that football wasnt always a middle class pursuit

Middle class whats that then? I come from a rough run down council estate.
People are saying the options are hard but those options are the beginning of something good. What good will come of sitting on job seekers allowance. Read what people have written, as I said I was broke and I did fall mate from a great height but I dont do self pity. I got up brushed myself down and started again earning shit money and I could have gone on the dole and got a damn site more than I was getting.
So tumbleweed been there and its hard and nasty and if I lose this job I will start again and I will carry on starting again.
Ok last comment you tell me why I should pay £838 per month in tax, wot so some twat can get a free fucking season ticket and sit at home whilst I contribute to his fucking meal on his table, no bollocks, I would be too damn ashamed to claim, I would rather be the lowest earner in UK than claim.

You've missed the point mate. Fortunately I,ve been in well paid jobs for 31 years and have built up my financial security over that period whilst paying tax and national insurance at the designated rate, latterly as a higher rate tax payer. Unfortunately I was made redundant at the beginning of December. I immediately looked for work, doing anything reasonable. I applied for casual work in warehousing at close to minimum wage but was asked if I had done that type of work before. when i said no I was told you need experience!!!!!! I eventually got a temp job at royal Mail doing night shifts sorting mail. The pay wasnt good but it was something and more importantly it kept me busy. Now that contract has ended I am looking for something else but I am still being told i am over qualified for a lot of jobs. I will get back to work eventually, sooner rather than later I hope, and in the meantime I will get JSA because I am entitled to. Because of my past working life i am more fortunate than many but I am needing to reduce my outgoings for a period of time. Given that I have bought a season ticket, merchandise etc from Stoke for the last 35 years, and supporting Stoke is a big part of my life, I would consider it entirely reasonable for Stoke to consider my request for a concession whilst my current predicament lasts. This is hypothetical of course as I already have my ST and dont need such assistance. But I know there will be people less fortunate who have shown similar longstanding commitment and for who a concession however small would be very helpful.

Would you call me a prick to my face coz I am not insulting anyone pointing out my circumstance and how I deal with live. I wont call you or any others on here wot you called me coz that is not my way. 22 years in the army taught me respect which you lack mate.

Let’s not get annoyed at each other here, the government is democratically elected and they have put in a system where there are disincentives to work. If some people are less well off for working it is an issue with the government and not the people who are using the system.
