Jarman: He's quick enough! Not top-end, but quick enough to chase down a ball in the channel. Beattie, maybe not so much, but he'll link us up mate.

Great signing IMO and worth every penny. I'm sure blades fans would have at least expected to get their money back. Bargain if you ask me in todays climate, as you say FullMagic.
At 30 he's hardly past it (similar age to Fuller and Mama), in form, and a good goal record.
I despair at some on here. "Don't judge a man by his opinions, but by what his opinions have made him". That will be a cock then!

It's odd theta the Sheff Utd forum states that hull wanted Beattie and were prepared to £5M for him, and that we are rumoured to have offered £5.5M for him: www.sheff-utd.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=11763Would that imply a player going in the opposite direction if we've heard £2.5M?

Let's drop it eh deano? You can have your opinion and that's perfectly fair but when someone says "some people will find reasons to moan" i also have every right to tell him some including you already have. If you're happy with your opinion why care so much i've publicised it a bit more? And i never called you a prick either remember nor will i anybody else while for you it's a daily occurence. As for having 20 friends on here. I'm a sad lonely bastard who hasn't got 20 friends anywhere let alone just on here

2.5 million! Have sheffield gone barmy, he's a striker with 4 good years left him imo, proper goalscorer.
Fucking hell, if stoke pull this off......
Seriously, i expected at least double this.
FM knows what he's talking about, 2.5 million for a player like him is a true bargain in today's climate.

maybe the fact that ssn arent allowed at the ground is a factor to why sky sports havent said the bid has been accepted, presuming it has, maybe they dont know. it is strange though that there are different stories though. maybe stoke want to keep it pretty schtum for now

Typical Pulis striker. Will fit in with the system well and can play the Sidibe roll, as he's a great headerer (is that a word?!) of the ball. Decent finisher as well.
Will be a good signing.

www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11683_4770671,00.html Sheffield United striker James Beattie could be on his way to Stoke City, skysports.com understands. A figure in the region of £2.5million is thought to have been agreed between the two clubs, with Beattie having visited Stoke's Britannia Stadium this week. The one-time England cap has scored 12 goals this season, form that has seen him rumoured to be on the radar of several Premier League clubs. Beattie has not played in the top flight since leaving Everton for Sheffield United in 2007 for a £4million fee. Stoke boss Tony Pulis has already bolstered his squad this week with the acquisition of Matthew Etherington and now appears close to adding another new face. strange that sky sports news and sky sports news the website have different views on the deal

That will be a cock then! I'm glad it wasn't just me that thought this. Beattie will be Mama with goals, he plays in that role for Sheffield United right now. He's scored almost as many as Ebanks-Blake so far this season and yet some people have been saying for weeks that we should sign the latter. It's a very good deal for us, I'm glad we've got him in.

You would have thought so FM. Surely if we are so very close to agreeing a transfer, neither party would want an injury to occur (or red card)?!

If we're going to compare goalscoring records, Fuller is on 1 in 3 in a Stoke City shirt, mostly in the Championship. Beattie is scoring 1 in 2. That's in improvement on what we have, isn't it?

I think it might be your tone, rather than your thoughts, Deano. I know where you're coming from ... If I'm honest, from the list we had on here the other day, I was hoping for Alan (Sick-Note) Smith ... ... Not that Beatie is a shocking signing (and £2.5m is a good price), but I do reckon this is a bit like the signing of the bloke he reminds me of: John Parkin. There is definately something about the bloke, there should (was) a good player in there (once?), so I guess it's one more stray dog in need of a cuddle ... if Pulis can get him playing then there is 10+ goals in him for the rest of the season. If ... However ... when someone next sees the CatMonkey fella, tell him I want a word: 7.5 out of 10!!? ah Think John Parkin is a good comparison. Can really see him coming in and grabbing us a few vital goals, especially with Etherington and Lawrence in the side. If we do manage to stay up, I can see him dropping the down the pecking order fairly quickly as we (hopefully) sign better players, but if we are relegated he'd be great leading the line in the Championship. I've actually seen Beattie play a couple of times for Sheff Utd this season (i'm up at uni in Sheffield) and, to be honest, both times he looked far from brilliant- but he can still head a ball and is a real physical presence. He's scored 12 goals already for a pretty mediocre side and I know my Sheff Utd supporting housemate is gutted he's going for just £2.5 million.

2.5 mil is an UNBELIEVABLE price for Beattie.
They paid 4 mil to Everton, what 18 (?) months ago, and since then he has been on fire for them.
The Sheffield Utd fans must be absolutely fuming!
I would assume that all those telling us that Harewood and Camara were definately on their way, will now be eating humble pie.

I wasn't too enamoured with this initially, but after mulling it over it might be ok for the price. Certianly is if he gets 5 goals! Forget what I said above. DEAL! DEAL! DEAL! ;D

I think Beattie would be a great addition to the team. We need someone that can play with Fuller up front and knows how to score goals. Sorry, Mama, that is not your strongest side.

When you see Diomansy Kamara going for £6m, Bouazza going to Fulham for £4m, Chopra £5m, Billy Sharp £2.5m, Nugent £6m etc, I think we definitely come out the right side of this deal. I'd be well pissed off if I was a Sheff U fan, regardless of how his Stoke career pans out, or whether there's potentially better value for a buyer abroad Although I suppose a thing to bear in mind is there probably won't be any resale value?

What do you people want? He is a quality, proven goalscorer. Had a bad time at Everton but proved himself at Southampton and compared to VP and Cresser hes world class. He will be a success here in my opinion and will be a bargain. Unfortuently Buxton some people won't be happy until we're worse than the vale. A proven premiership goalscorer isn't good enough for you people, what is!?
