Interesting in that Star article that Blackwell says Beattie has a touch of flu and may not play tomorrow because of it. Hmmmmm.

I can't see that being true, I think the Chairman is just trying to keep the fans quiet as they've got a home fixture today. Beattie has definitely been down the Brit and you cannot speak to a player until his club allow you to, which is AFTER a fee has been agreed. I think the only issues to be resolved (other than his loyalty fee for not asking for a move a la Defoe this week) is whether or not it will be a straight cash deal or a part exchange. I'm very confident still. True, Jamo. Hopefully we're just waiting for the Sheff U internal politics to sort itself out. Interesting that the Sentinel mentions the possibility of Kitson (or Tonge) going as P/Ex. It'd be very interesting to see what that'd do to the fee - and even more interesting to see if he'd actually go there.

It never seems easy when we try to do a deal and I imagine TP is pulling his hair out that it has got out before the contract has been signed. We just need to be aggressive now and get the deal done before we end up with egg on our faces.

Privately, Stoke's top-flight rivals Hull have also poured cold water on rumours they have contacted United about the possibility of taking Beattie to East Yorkshire.

"I can confirm that Stoke have made an enquiry, I have left it with my board of directors and it is up to them to decide what to do from here."
"As far as I'm concerned James is still a United player and that is how it will stay until I'm told otherwise."
Blackwell added: "After training yesterday James was clearly suffering from a touch of flu. If he's fit then he'll play."
"If he's not then he won't."
McCabe also added..."No deal has been struck, And if movement of players does occur, particularly involving those you do not want to go, then it would only be done to strengthen not weaken the club.
I thought we had done the deal?

Its certainly not ideal jamo. I hate it when the deals drag on - they should just be announced as completed! If not you end up with transfers collapsing at the last hurdle as teams nick players at the eleventh hour like stoke did from hull!!!
You have to wonder whose agenda is going to come out on top with this one!

No I agree it's far from ideal, but I guess when you're in this gold fish bowl that is the Premier League it is nigh on impossible to keep deals quiet. I hope we're far enough down the line to complete the move over the weekend.

This is Stoke city remember nothing is ever done the easy way ;D As in signed a contract, medical done, pay-off from SheffU sorted etc, mark? Done and dusted, but just not announced at the request of SUFC? Strange that the tone of the Sentinel article is pretty downbeat, as opposed to offering a pretty positive spin.. So we won't see Pugh/Kitson/Tonge going the other way?

This is Stoke city remember nothing is ever done the easy way ;D from todays Sentinel The deal eventually stalled because Beattie, reputedly Sheffield’s highest earner, is understood to be unhappy with his outgoing financial settlement at Bramall Lane. So has this been sorted now, if indeed that was what the hold up was?!

I've been told Pulis is furious the's deals not been completed in time for him to play today but there is nothing to worry about, all the hold ups have come from the Sheffield end. The fee has been agreed, the contract between Stoke and Beatie has been agreed it's just a matter of Sheff utd getting there arse in gear. Jamo's got it bang on, they've got a home game today and their fans will give him hell if they've sold there top goal scorer and not replaced him.

But Gary says that it is the ineptitude of our club that is holding up the deal ??? There are so many different (conspiracy) theories on this MB at the moment, it's difficult to know what to believe! I think we all just want it to be confirmed one way or the other. I personally think he's a good signing as he could knock in some goals for us - nothing is guaranteed obviously. Would be disappointed if Kits was moving in the opposite direction as is being quoted by certain sections of the media.

You have to wonder whose agenda is going to come out on top with this one! the deal has only dragged on, on this board. Nobody from Stoke has made any commnt about the deal, i suspect that it is taking no longer than any other deal merely that this has been leaked at virtually every stage of the transfer.
