so who would be the first choice front two if this comes off?
riccy and beattie?
As we all know, mama is a big part of our game and could be hard to drop when fit. Beattie is good in the air, but can he match mama?
those 3 and kitson doesn't make for too bad of a forward line.

That sounds like an almost unbelievable price for Beattie in the English market.
I'd imagine there'll be lots of long faces in Sheffield if it turns out that fee's accurate. You can't get much at all for that kind of money.

You can't get much at all for that kind of money. I wouldn't have been at all surprised if we paid £4.5 million for Beattie. Instead, we've (on paper) got Beattie AND Tonge

£2.5m is a great price. Just worrying that his lack of form towards the end of his Everton career may mean that he can't hack it at this level anymore.

Agreed thats a fantastic bit of business. Wont stop the moaning dicks though. They've started already mate. Kingdeano has got his claws out so jarhead will be along in a min. Be prepared to be called a rimmer just for suggesting a proven goal scorer in the prem can possibly be an improvement to our squad. shut up you sad prick! i aint got claws out im just not as impressed as you are, i personally think hes toss! doesnt make me right, its what i call an opinion!!! i hope beattie rams my opinion down my throat by scoring the goals that keep us up!! just because i dont want jump on your "lets all wank over beattie" bandwagon doesnt mean i want him fail

Obviously, IF the transfer is confirmed, the price is even more impressive considering that there were a number of reports earlier in the week saying that Fulham and Hull were bidding around the £4m mark for Beattie.

Good deal for 2.5 million.
All these unhappy people....I don't get it. Beattie scores goals and has done so at every club he has been at. It's not a 'rock the city' signing but it's certainly better than what we have!
If people think we are going to sign the high profile strikers of this world then you must be living in cloud cuckoo land.

Definately prefer him to harewood, and i tihnk he's good value at that price, so am happy with this move overall.
My only reservation is that i always thought he was pretty poor for everton, or at least i felt he missed a hatful of chances. Checking his record, he scored 13 goals in 51 starts and 25 subs for everton (league only) which is OK but nothing amazing.
However he has really done the business for every other club he's been at, and has a 0.33 goals/game average in the league over his entire career. Certainly puts a big tick in the box named "Knows where the net is", and is a different type of striker to what we've had for a while.

It makes perfect sense...whilst not as quick as Mama he can play that target man role too. Big, strong, can hold the ball up and link us up, can flick on plenty of ball for Riccy. Seems like a Kevin Davies-like player, who is equally as effective for Bolton.
2.5 million for a 30 yr old is a bit steep, but when you see how we play without a Mama-type player, you realize that this is a good signing in the short term.
You have to hand it to TP...we needed a left winger and he got one with Prem experience. We needed a second proper target man striker (and Kitson isn't that player) and he got one with Prem experience. He has also done this within a week of the window opening too...no messing around with any 'pipe-dream' signings.
Well done Tony.

A very good signing and an ex National standard swimmer! I remember racing a competition in Wigan and he was there, I was very young at the time though.

If people think we are going to sign the high profile strikers of this world then you must be living in cloud cuckoo land. Spot on. We will probably now bring in a striker with pedigree - much better than Pericant and Cresswell and people are still complaining. Unbelievable. We do not have gazillions of pounds to spend on the ultimate top players in the world (yet...). Some people need to take a serious reality check!

I think it might be your tone, rather than your thoughts, Deano. I know where you're coming from ...
If I'm honest, from the list we had on here the other day, I was hoping for Alan (Sick-Note) Smith ...
... Not that Beatie is a shocking signing (and £2.5m is a good price), but I do reckon this is a bit like the signing of the bloke he reminds me of: John Parkin. There is definately something about the bloke, there should (was) a good player in there (once?), so I guess it's one more stray dog in need of a cuddle ... if Pulis can get him playing then there is 10+ goals in him for the rest of the season. If ...
However ... when someone next sees the CatMonkey fella, tell him I want a word: 7.5 out of 10!!?
ah

As the scousers would say ''calm down calm down'' ;D im trying mate, but trumpton doesnt think people are entitled to an opinion! i really hope the lad does well, but i dont think he will, doesnt mean i want him fail Wow you really are in a tizz aren't you? I didn't say you couldn't have an opinion. I can't be arsed to find it but you put something along the lines of "He's a complete waste of 2.5 mill. For god sake Coatsey stop him spending anymore money" I'd say "CLAWS OUT" was a fair comment and as i predicted jarhead was along in 5 mins and no surprise he completely agreed with you. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
