just after half time (i think) 6 or 7 stewards and a SWAT man came and ejected a bloke who sits in front of me for (from what i heard..) smoking at half time. He is a decent chap and not agressive or anything like that, but i gather (from his mate) they took his ST off him and threw him out.
Bit OTT from out beloved stewards, and why it took 8 off them (probably for intimidation) purposes is beyond me. At 1st they tried to eject the wrong bloke who was there with his kid (who couldnt have been older than 10) before they decided it wasnt him!
It just makes me wonder how they choose their 'victims' to bully and eject when they are thousands of people smoking in the toilets. Either do them all or do none. its unfair to single one person out. Would it be so hard for the club to make some kind of smoking area in each stand?

They should do it to each and everyone of them, however i feel that Stoke should open the back doors and make a smoking pen/area

They need to come and have a look at block 30 - they should easily spot them as they are quite close to the front.

Good point mitch. I'm not a smoker but I'd rather the club made accommodation for smokers like every pub in the land has done, rather than reduce the addicted minority to behaving like naughty schoolkids having a crafty fag in the bogs.

I think that the club need to sort this issue out, i try to avoid going the toilet at half time, its like walking into one big smog!!! I dont smoke and think it is one of the worst habbits ever but people do it and on my say they wont stop so why just cant the club deal with it better?

I wouldn't dream of going the toilet at Stoke cos its like a deep bloody smog in there. Disgusting and potentially harmful and I see why non smokers should have to put up with it. My mate is a smoker and even he refuses to use the toilets at half time. However the problem does need sorting and I would think this is an issue the fans forum was set up for! If people are that reliant on drugs that they can't or won't go for 90 minutes without them, then surely they could open up a cordoned off area outside for them?

smoke detector and sprinkler system in the toilets would sort it........ ;D Thats a terrible idea mate. There would always be 1 dickhead who would light up in the bogs and the whole stadium would be evacuated.

I remember when you could smoke on the concourse but not in the stand! I mean friggin hell. So no wonder we have this ridiculous scenario of smoking in the bogs. Would be very easy to create a smoking pen for the smokers, no idea why they dont do it. Having said that its not that hard to go 90 odd mins without a fag.

can anyone explain to me what RIGHT stewards have to remove his season ticket ? pretty sure they don't have any rights to search him, or force him to hand over any ticket he has paid for.
people know where I stand on this issue, it is against NO law to smoke in the stands, they are not enclosed enough, this is some crap Prem/FL rule that football authorities have implimented without consultation . I've been in smoking shelters outside wigan hospital that were more enclosed than our ground

Its a shambles. It is not actually against the law to smoke in the stands is it? Just the football leagues decision to do so.

Here we go again. Eject the guy and take his season ticket away...no probs, he knows the rules. What an utter load of over-the-top bollox. How about the club start to throw out the swearers and everyone who stands up? After all, it's against the rules and the latter, swearing, is actually breaking the law. Surely people can go ninety minutes without standing up or swearing? Can't they? After all, they manage ok on an aircraft when they go on holiday. OS.

I've heard you can get cancer from passive swearing so that should be banned too.

Im a smoker and manage to go without as would do anything for my beloved Stoke. I sit in the family stand and in the bogs at HT its like an opium den but agree that a smoking area should be made available to stop the toilets being a no go area for some.

The toilets in the South Stand are bloody horrible. You just can't breathe in there. Something has to be done about it.

im a smoker.. but i manage without a cigarette once im in the ground. If people want to smoke then i dont see why they shouldnt have a designated space to do so. it wouldnt take a lot of money or time or effort to set up a pen in each stand for smokers. Its not rocket science. Then we wouldnt have this issue of using the toilets. Plus its not really fair on kids who need to use the toilets.

all they have to do is open the doors at half time in the concourse. they do at other grounds.

Its not just half-time it happens, 30mins before kick-off in the Boothen yesterday, it made me cough me guts up, (I don't smoke), my lad went down at half time, when he got back to me, he stank of the things. What pisses me off is how blatant the smokers are about it, many of them walk into the toilets with a fag in their gob, the stewards should sort it.
An area does need making available for the smokers, but in the meantime, STOP DOING IT!

i dont think people are gonna stop doing it.. so a smoking area is muchly needed!!
As for the stewards... they should repromand everyone who does it or no-one at all. unfair to single the odd person out when hundreds are doing it. And naturally they wouldnt pick on those who look like they could handle themselves.

Im glad they have made an example of this person and taken his season ticket away. No doubt he will have been warned before but chose to take no notice. I sit in Block 30 and the toilets are horrendous at half time. I am not a do gooder, in fact ive got nothing against people smoking but it has to be in the right place and the toilets certainly isnt that place. I kinda feel sorry for the stewards at times. They go into the toilet at half time to tell people to extinguish their cigarettes and all they get is a load of abuse, mostly off spotty little chavs who think they look hard by smoking.. I heard one steward say to a smoker "look mate you need to put that out now or your looking at a 3 year ban and your season ticket taken away". The smoker replied smugly, "im not smoking, my hand is on fire". People frown at the stewards but they are only doing their job.

I am not a smoker and don't enjoy using the bogs at half time when I am faced with unsolicited passive smoking. HOWEVER, Stoke operates a two teir system in respect of this. They allow smokers to go outside from the prawn sandwich seats and corporate boxes. This looks absolutely awful, as visiting dignitaries who arrive at our main entrance are greeted with a dozen cancer creators, puffing away on their fags. If they can manage this, then they can manage a small area outside each stand. It is time the club got this sorted!

There should be a smoking area for the smokers. However ,how many of these people go abroad on a plane ? Go to Teneriffe and its four hours without a fag. I used to smoke twenty a day but I managed 4 hours without one on a plane, plkus the first one after the flight was fantastic!! Surely two hours isn,t too much to ask? ???
