Only 21 now, but my Dad has always been a relatively big fan, taking me to a lot of games as a young'un. But seeing Steino play, and feeling that it was the best thing in the world really sealed it. Since then, my life has revolved around this team. (And this website for the last few months)

My uncle. I was born and brought up in Essex my local teams were West Ham or Spurs, but I first saw Stoke play when we visited my Uncle in Stoke in 1969, it stuck, first team I ever saw play Stoke v Newcastle ironically, it was on 6 December 1969 except we lost 0-1.
I was the only Stoke fan in a school of 1500 of west ham and spurs fans, actually I was in the same school as Glenn Hoddle and he was going out with the then headmasters daughter whom he later married, and his sidekick Eileen Drewery was the landlady of the pub right opposite my house at the time.
Back to football my Uncle saved the day coz my dad was a Lincoln City fan big time

I had a season ticket at the vic for quite a few years when I was around 7. Supported them ever since. I admit i only went 4 /5 games last season, but my support was and always has been there

You can't choose what team you support. You're born into it, it's in your soul. Unless your a Glory Hunting United Sh!tbag! ;D

I adopted Stoke in 77/78. My mum was a fan I guess, and I took a bit of an interest, then I was taken to my fist game (Boxing Day 1978 - it's my [glow=red,2,300]30th Anniversary![/glow] ;D) I never looked back. First 5 years of supporting them were in the top flight and that's why it's vital for youngsters to get into games now. OK kmost of the following years were "in the wilderness", but the point is - it gives memories and hope for the future when you've tasted it once.

My nan took me to my first game in about 92-93 and that was that, I was gifted with a stoke top for my next birthday ;D.
My uncle and cousin were vale fans so they took me along for a couple of seasons when they had the likes of jon mccarthy and neil aspin, it was enjoyable as a kid, just not right!
Life got abit sidetracked in my teens for afew years then I got reaquainted with Stoke and never looked back.

Have to admit I'm a relative newcomer to the mighty potters. All my family are either shit fans or liverpool so from the age of about 10-15 I went to most of the shits home games with me dad
However, when I got a bit older and could go to football without me dad, I went to (at first recultantly) to see the mighty potters at home to southampton in the boskamp season. even though we lost 1-2 i was totally hooked by the whole atmosphere at stoke which is 1million times better than at OT.
its good to support your local team and not one of the giants of English football and most importantly i was hooked on stoke because of the atmosphere, that you dont find in many other grounds around the country

I remember my first game at 7 i think i was ( il check with my dad later). About a year or so after the brit had opened. I sat in the Family Area and was amazed by the boothen end, watching them all go mental when we scored and singing all through the game, got me hooked.
So i said for the next game can we sit in there and my dad took me in there and I remember being amazed by it all.
It's a shame i never got to visit the vic, because my dad always tells me what it was like so would of liked to of gone but i was quite young at the time.
I hate all the glory hunting ***** who all they really care about is results. For example if we lose they say wow your shit etc etc.... But for me at least i know what it feels like to be a real supporter and still come out after a match even if we lose 5 - 0 and think " theres always next week" ;D.

Folks never into football and I grew up watching Liverpool more than anyone. Friend (!) from school asked onr Friday if I wanted to go to football on Saturday with him and went to the Vale with him. ende up going for about 2 seasons then started going with this bird who family were all Stoke. Her old man took me to the Vic and as I stood on the Boothen end the hairs on the back of my neck stood up and i couldn't belive all times i'd been to Burslum i could have been coming here. Love at first sight I suppose. 18 years ago and never looked back. Always in my blood, I just didn't know it.
(Don't hate me for going to the Vale, we all make mistakes)

I have an unhealthy obsession with Stoke-on-Trent, I think I'm in love with it, erotically so... And I'm from the Meir which is why it's Stoke and not them black, white and yellow shitbags from up the road.

My dad (a cheadle lad) took me to my first game in 1980 at home to arsenal. We used to go home and away in the 80's and early 90's then he moved down south and i carried the torch travelling from wolverhampton and now nottingham.

Great thread!
When I was a young kid (early 70's) my mum and dad gave me a Chelsea bag. I was told by my dad that Chelsea was THE team to follow and that Peter Osgood was a superb player. (I'm Norwegian). A while later I was given a football kit for Christmas from my mum and dad. It was the Stoke kit and I was told that Stoke was THE team to follow and that they were much better than Chelsea. A real football kit was very rare those days so it stuck with me despite being given a torrid time by my schoolmates who were Leeds supporters. Boy, do I hate Leeds!
My dad (he must have been a gloryhunter?) tried to convert me to a Liverpool-supporter when they hit peak a few years later but it was too late - I had become a Stokie. I visited S-o-T for the first time in 2000 and have been there seven times now. I just love the team, the city itself and the people. An incredible place!

From the age of about six (ie in 1967!) I walked to the Vic every home game from my grandad's in Fenton with my dad, grandad and various uncles and cousins. For me, Stoke City is family, family is Stoke City. My daughter's born and bred in Lincolnshire but she has been brought up a Potters fan. She walks to the home games with her dad and grandad (after a two hour drive!) and one day, I fully expect, will take her kids, too.

This is a marvellous thread - dont care how many times it's been done before - and really enjoyed reading everybodies testimonies. My story is this: My Dad used to go home and away as a youngster, so I was brought up with all the stories of Stan and Waddo et al, very intriguing. Then I got a Stoke shirt passed down to me (from a sibling) as a nipper and wore it till it was threadbare, even though id still not seen them play. Finally, I was injected with a dose of Steino and I was hooked and it would go on to shape my adolesence. I, like many, have had my faith tested several times, and i have to admit, at times, supporting Stoke just didnt seem worth it. So I wondered and I roved, but I always came back and finally when I moved away from Stoke, I became a fully feldged fanatic, as you cant beat that affinity with the place you are from and share with all the people who are from a place where you feel you belong.
Stoke City, it is inside you always (I have to stop drinking lol).

When I was growing up it was either Stoke or Vale and being as my dad was a Stoke fan I naturally followed, started going the Victoria Ground when Alan Ball was in charge, early 90's. Hooked ever since, now me and kids have a ST and they love it !!
