We all know that Big Mama's record infront of goal isn't the best and that he is in the team to provide rather than score. However, when he does hit the back of the net, he tends to do it in rather important games. Have a look....
2005/2006
29-8-05. Stoke 3-1 Norwich. Sidibe scores the vital third to seal victory.
26-11-05. Sheff Wed 0-2 Stoke. Demoted to the bench, Sidibe comes on at half time and, after Sheff Wed pressure, ensures all three points with the second goal of the match.
9-12-05. Stoke 3-2 Leicester. Sidibe scores a vital equaliser quarter of an hour from the end, before Bangoura seals victory.
2-1-06. Stoke 2-2 Leicester. Having gone 2-0 down, Russell halves the deficit and, in the 73rd minute, Sidibe heads home a corner to seal a point.
28-1-06. Stoke 2-1 Walsall. On the stroke of half-time, Sidibe scores the opening goal to put Stoke on thir way to the fifth round of the cup.
30-4-06. Brighton 1-5 Stoke. Already 2-0 up thanks to Adam Rooney's brace, Sidibe makes sure there is no way back for the home side with the third goal just before the half-time break.
Total- 7 Goals. 6 wins, 1 draw.
2006/2007
26-8-06. Stoke 1-1 Plymouth. Sidibe puts Stoke into the lead five minutes before the break but his goal is cancelled out by a late Hayles equaliser.
28-11-06. Stoke 3-0 Cardiff. In a crazy five minutes, Sidibe wraps up the points to send 15,000 Stokies wild.
26-12-06. Stoke 1-2 Sheff Wed. For once, a Sidibe goal is academic as former Stokie Deon Burton wipes out his equaliser.
30-12-06. Stoke 3-1 Leeds. Mama heads home a Hendrie corner to open the scoring against the mighty Leeds United.
20-1-07. Preston 3-2 Stoke. Sidibe's effort is ruled to have crossed the line to send Stoke 2-0 up after just seven minutes. Somehow, a second half collapse results in a home win.
23-1-07. Burnley 0-1 Stoke. Sidibe's impressive scoring run continues as he scores the only goal of the game to put Stoke in a play-off position.
31-3-07. Stoke 4-2 Leicester. With the game locked at two each, Mama puts Stoke into the lead with just ten minutes left.
28-4-07. Stoke 3-1 Colchester. In this make or break match, Sidibe's goal comes out off the heals of Russell's goal top turn a one nil deficit into a 2-1 lead.
6-5-07. QPR 1-1 Stoke. In the final game of the season and Stoke needing a handsome victory to earn a play-off spot, the hamstrung Sidibe limps into the area and sweeps home an equaliser.
Total: 9 Goals. 5 wins, 2 draws, 2 defeats.
2007/2008.
12-2-08. Stoke 3-2 Southampton. Having waited all season for his first goal, Sidibe towers above the defence to head home Lawrence's corner. It put Stoke 3-0 up but turned out to be a crucial goal after Stern John's brace.
11-3-08. Norwich 0-1 Stoke. Just as hope of promotion was beginning to run away, Sidibe flicked Delap's long throw into the back of the net to renew hope.
19-4-08. Stoke 2-1 Bristol City. Surely Mama's finest hour. In a must win game, Sidibe heads home the opener before slotting home a one-on-one opportunity to seal victory.
Total: 4 Goals. 3 wins.
2008/2009
23-8-08. Stoke 3-2 Aston Villa. The Delap-Sidibe routine works again as a deft header in the fourth minute of injury time seals Stoke's first Premier League win.
23-9-08. Stoke 2-2 Reading (Stoke won on penalties). Early in the second half, Sidibe blasts Stoke into the lead.
22-11-08. Stoke 1-0 West Brom. Sidibe superbly heads home Higginbotham's left wing cross to leave the fans singing "We always beat West Brom"
6-12-08. Newcastle Utd 2-2 Stoke. The introduction of Ricardo Fuller ignites Stoke into action and, with the score at 2-0 to the home side, Sidibe halves the deficit with a cool finish from 10 yards.
Total: 4 Goals. 3 wins, 1 draw.
What will Saturday bring....

Thats crazy...
I've always said that Mama scores important goals. his 2 against Brizzle last season were in my opinion 2 of the most important goals in Stoke recent history!

good stats knowlsey i think you can be exused the wheel because you have provided great detail.
its good to have a striker who scores crucial goals as opposed to a striker who scores bags of goals that dont mean anything
ie when you are already 2-0 up or relegated etc

If we're honest though, we don't often win games by more than the odd goal, so it follows that any goals scored are likely to be significant.
I've said before of Sidibe that he's a better striker than we give him credit for, and the main reason for him not scoring so many is the way TP uses him. It'd be interesting to see some stats on how many chances he actually misses; I know we've seen two or three howlers in the last couple of seasons, but is his "conversion rate" any worse than Fuller's, for example? I'm not trying to compare the skills of Mama and Ric, just making the point that even the best strikers miss chances.
Mama is fast becoming a Stoke City legend.

Spoke to Mama a few days after the Bristol City match and asked him what his thoughts were as he was bearing down on goal - to which he replied "arrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr just smashhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh it".
Mama is a legend.
SIDIBE FOR PRESIDENT #2

Agreed. For me, Mama is already a legend. He sat on our table at the awards night a couple of years ago and he really is a very nice guy. Took time out to answer any questions we had and posed for photographs with anyone that came up to him.

How many assists does he have this season I wonder ? I can think of 2 right off the bat, the one against spurs and flick on for the pen against Hull, he also won the flick on to put fuller through against Newcastle, which Mama went on to score I love Big Mama.

An integral part of the team due to the way we play.
Not always brilliant but you know he will keep on running!
Good reading as well Knowles - He has scored some crucial goals!

He sounds like a thoroughly patient and nice man. It cant be easy being the target of vitriol from fans of a football club. Sometimes its deserved, but Mama seems to conduct himself with passion and dignity and always gives 100% when he pulls on the stripes, and Stokies always expect that dedication from their players.

I had a dream last night that he scored a brace against Fulham... It was a very convincing dream... Might have a couple of quid on it.

Strangely I was at a cricket match last summer NottsvKent one dayer, before the match I was talking to some Gillingham fans who asked what I thought of Sidibe. I of course gave the stock answer, that he gave his all but did not score enough goals. The Gillingham fans said he was the same there but when he did score they were always important goals that usually decided the match. How weird that he should continue that here ,but long may it continue.

The man is a hero. Unfortunately I also remember all the cockstains that were slagging him off about a week before the Brizzle game last year saying how wank he was and how we'd never get promoted with him in the team. Funny how the same people are now saying how the club is doomed and not doing enough!
GOARRRN Mama, you're a legend, we love you

well said baggz, remember when they used to slate sidibe on here, two faced cocks. why is changing your mind make you a two faced cock? Surely it's a good thing that Mama has proved so many people wrong, and they've not been so entrenched in their opinions that they've hung onto them our of stubbornness (which seems to be the par for the course on here) I don't think Cressie is premiership class, but nothing would please me more than him having a blinding season and proving to be the greatest striker cum left winger that the premiership has ever seen ;D

Hmmmm .... I'd prefer it if he scored a hatful of goals even if that meant not as many were vital! ;D If we take his goals away from the score (and I know the impact of a well timed goal goes way beyond simply adding 1 to the score) then he has earned the following points: 2005/2006 6 goals = 3 points 2006/2007 9 goals = 6 points 2007/2008 4 goals = 7 points 2008/2009 4 goals = 5 points Clearly he is getting better at scoring when it counts most

I thought with Mama's impending return it was time to bring this little thread back to the top.
Sidibe has featured in 17 top flight games this season, during which we have picked up 20 points (including the Fulham match). That's a decent ratio of 1.18 points per match- over the season enough to get you to 44/45 points.
Since we lost him, we've played eight games and picked up just four points. I appreciate January was tough but Sidibe played against Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea. Going on this ratio, we would pick up a miserable 19 points over a season (at least it's better than Derby ;D).
So, two things. I'm a sad bastard and Mama is an important player.
Do the business again tomorrow big man!
