Bullshit! I've not said we should ignore it at all. I've said it's not the only factor all fucking day! If you think that game on Sunday was giving it a good go, then god help us all.
Just show me exactly where I've done that then?

I feel like I’ve been going round in circles all fucking day.
We created some genuinely good chances against Man City. We didn’t just sit back, we created and should have scored but we just couldn’t find the net on the day. I’m not saying we deserved to win or even get a point, I’m just saying it could have been a lot closer than 3-0. If we had take the chances we created at 0-0, 1-0 and even 2-0 it could have been a completely different game. Looking back on the game it isn’t negative to say “these things are going to happen this season” it’s just being realistic.
The premier league is a different kettle of fish, if you don’t take your chances you will get punished and we did so by a player that cost the same amount that Tone has spent trying to build a squad to compete in this league.
And that’s what exactly Pulis has done, he’s given us a team that will fight and compete this season….we will not do a Derby.
There’s nothing wrong with remaining upbeat and positive in the light of a 3-0 defeat. We simply move onto the next game and that’s tonight and a massive 3 points to fight for.

Yeah but the day has gone faster because of it. Well it has for me anyway!
As for the game, yes we created a couple of good chances, but we have done in most games this season. It's nothing new, and it doesn't seem to matter who we are playing either. This is my whole point about giving Man City too much respect. Do you not see my point that if we say that Man City are too good for us and we should expect to lose to them then it makes our Liverpool and Villa games look like flukes, and I think we deserve better than that, especially after those 2 great performances? If TP can get his tactics on the money and players in the right positions for more than one match, I reckon we could shock a few people, I really do. I don't expect it, but in my head I think it. Upbeat and positive is all fine, I'm totally on board with that, I just hate excuses ( not from you, people on here in general) , especially when it's not the whole story.

It has gone quick although my productivity has taken a serious dip today.
If we have to do it all again tomorrow can we at least debate the pro’s and con’s of a scrappy display which produced 3 points from the Sunderland match?

I'd prefer to discuss Fulop dropping 2 in the back of his net, getting subbed and Keane knocking him the fuck out as he walks off. Keane then storms back to the dug-out and knocks himself out on the edge .... if we're gonna dream about tomorrow we may aswell dream high

944 posts under this name, name registered 2004, either you've been living in a bubble or you are talking bollox, you decide. I love the way AGSF, Ligeia. slangking, whatever his name is next week has to keep changing his name in the hope that people forget the ridiculous things he said under his last nom de plume. Pulis did a great job in getting us up, no argument from me. So far, on the evidence of the summer transfer dealings and the season so far (especially when compared to the other promoted teams), I am not sure he will, or is able to, keep us up now we are here. I sincerely hope I am wrong mind. Spunking away 9 mill on two players who have in no way, shape or form set the world alight in the red and white really hasn't helped. For us to stand a chance, Pulis had to get virtually every signing bang on when spending his 20 mill kitty. I'd argue that it seems that he's only spent about 7 mill of it well - Abdy Faye, Higgy, Sorensen and maybe Soares (hard to tell yet, but seems promising), although Davies may prove a good buy in the long-term as well.

Apologies, Mr Two Degrees. I didn't know it was de rigeur to have different user names on different boards.
Being the simple soul that I am, I have used the same name on all boards since first I ventured onto the Oatcake fenetre site way back in 1997. Silly me.

Now it's getting personal. I'm getting a bit fed up with the 'Robinho excuse'. How many goals did that 30 million quid player score before he played against us? I can tell you. 3. [Inc 1 pen.] And that was from 7 games. Why don't some of you admit, just for once, that we were beaten because we aren't good enough. And that the reason we aren't good enough is because Pulis has not spent his 20 million very well and that his plan B is plan A. That, of course, will stick in your craw cus you won't dare say a bad word about him for fear of rocking our sinking boat. You seem to think that if you continue your love-in, all will come good. And, if the worst happens, you can all go about boasting that "We once made it to The Prem." Now we're back to sucking red and white lollipops on the donkey on the beach at Blackpool. Hello, H. OS. OldStokie It's not getting personal at all.......I quite like you really. But i'm going to disagree with you all the same. Every area of the pitch needed strenghtening for this season and he got 20m. to do it. It's not really enough for 11 prem players is it? I'm realistic enough to realise that we can't compete as we would like in the transfer market. I think he's done very well really.

Agree with almost everything you say OldStokie.
It has been far too long a wait for top flight football just to bounce. And who else should we compare our progress to if not those newly promoted with us?
Not being totally turned over in a match does not make an iota of difference to the points on the board at the end of the game.
With regards Kitson...I am appalled to see such a costly and talented member of the squad left on the bench. The team was constructed hopefully to utilise AND blend their individual talents.
(Yes, the Oli guy is slow and ponderous)
As a loyal Pulis supporter I have been trying to rationalise at what point the team/manager are failing to make the grade and whether or not loyalty to the manager can be detrimental to the needs of the club?
If the Hull manager can sprinkle the faery dust on his club why can't our guy?

Alan Key?......You think TP did really well in the transfer market? Really? Stunned to say the least! Yes, I do. For the money spent, he's done brilliantly. Every Stoke player has been critisized on this message board by so called 'supporters' just like you.

Yep, fair doos mate , great three points. Didn't see the game obviously as I was working but got to hear a good 50 odd mins of it and it sounded like they didn't trouble us all night apart from Kenwyne Jones near the end.
How bad was Malbranque's challenge on Higgy by the way because they never showed it on MOTD? Foghorn was doing his nut, reckons he should have been sent off!

If I’m being honest mate I missed the challenge, which was a bit annoying, so can’t really comment.
We restricted them to 1 chance all night which was good and a clean sheet was a big bonus from the night, a few more of them will breed confidence across the back 4.
Soares looked a bit subdued after his past couple of performances but Tonge came on and looked inventive. Fuller could have made the last 15 minutes a lot more comfortable if he had finished when put through by Tonge and Sidibe was agonisingly close to getting a goal at 0-0 too.
It wasn’t an outstanding display from us but it was a game we were in control of for the majority and one we deservedly won.
My main gripe from the night was our inability to keep hold of the ball for any period of time. When we went one up I just wanted us to keep hold of the ball for a bit but we just kept giving it back to them. I don’t mean we should start wasting time and playing it into the corners when we tokok the lead, I just mean pass it about a bit and have a bit of ball retention.
But I’m nitpicking now, excellent 3 points.

Yes and Hull lost 3 - 0 at home to Chelsea so we are now officially better than Hull! ;D I thought of posting same earlier this morning (very early this morning, UK time) but I decided to be nice and give you the honour, oh daft one. (Obviously this means we are better than Arse - as Hull stuffed 'em at their place - so I expect a 9-0 victory on Satdee!) ((However, Wigan next Satdee looks extremely tough ... but as we're better than Hull we should do a bit better than 0-5. Have Wigan beaten Arse? Ooooo hang on, didn't Wigan lose to the Scousers? Wait a minute ... Yep, lost 3-2 at Anfield ... So on second thoughts, that one looks a Nailed-On certainty too. We'll be qualifying for the UEFA if this carries on!)) ah

Actually Andy, Wigan (away) was not a game I expected much from at the start of the season but I have been distinctly underwhelmed by what I have see from Wigan so far. A point (or even three) at Wigan wouldn't surprise me. We competed at Boro until Fay's red card and Wigan looks no harder.

Oi, not-so-wise-one, I aint under no bloody Rock. I aint Patrick Star! I'm more a Spongebob type character while you're more a Squidworth one. If the truth be known, I've just crawled out from hibernation after being frozen in the freezer. It was bloody cold last night. Brrrr. All last night told us was that S'land were Big Time Charlies Uberwankers. They were utter rubbish until Kenwyne Jones came on. We should have tonked them at least 4 or 7. Considering the dosh Keane has spent, he makes Pulis look like Sir Alf Ramsey. But he aint. We all know that. For those who doubt my amazing nogger credentials, I refer you to this bit in page one of the Re: ***OFFICIAL MATCH DAY THREAD (SUNDERLAND)*** I knows me stuff yer knows. Alan_Key. OS.

One good performance and result does not make us world beaters, just as one 3-0 beating does not make us certainties for relegation. Therre will be ups and downs all season - I just hope when the music stops come May we are in the same place in the table as we are today.
I still, and have every right to, question the judgement of a manager who splashes out 5.5m on a striker who only 10 games into the season seems surplus to requirements. Profligate is the word that springs to mind. He seems to have bought Kitson based on his height, not on his playing strengths. If Harewood does come in January, then it seems he may well get his new big, physical hard-running partner for Fuller at the second attempt. Let's hope the six months of delay in doing so does not come back to haunt us.

Errr, you seem to be down to Kitson now? Have you forgotten that yesterday you were saying that Olofinjana was a total waste of money as well? And if Kitson has a good game you'll have forgotten that and be onto someone else, sad bastuds these PHW's, why don't they just give up?

If you read properly what I put, I said that the 5.5m striker is now deemed surplus to requirements by the manager who bought him. This does not apply to the expensive midfielder who he still retains in the first XI, despite some anonymous performances this season.
I personally feel that the jury is very much out on both - Oli for reasons many people have already posted about his managing to have one good game in ten (something even the Yam Yams could spot!), and Kitson because he is not being played in a position or system which makes use of his Premiership quality talents.

I read it, you said he had wasted £9million pounds, some observation based on 10 games, just hearsay and hoping for the worst as usual. Kitson needed a kick up the ass, and he has been rightly benched, I don't see him and Fuller as being any different players so why should Fuller fit in and Kitson not? Kitson's attitude stank for the first few games, hopefully him being benched has given him a reality check, it certainly seems to have helped concentrate the minds of the likes of Shawcross. So shut thefuck up please and don't continually try to make trouble for no reason, Pulis knows what he is doing, you should have learned that by now.

Oh, so it is shut up and don't dare criticise Super Tone as he never makes any mistakes? Even Fergie and Wenger make mistakes in the transfer market (Taibi, Prunier; Stepanovs, Senderos, Jeffers??? and a few others I am sure), but Our Tone does not?!??!?!?!? Two words - Paul Williams.
Of course he does, and if he says he is so careful to bring in the right players at the right price with the right attitude and the right style to fit into the club, yet we have a player who cost more than most of us ever thought Stoke would spend on one player in our lifetime looking like a square peg in a round hole and demoted to the bench for the limited trier Sidibe, we are surely within our rights as supporters to question the deal?

Post by slangking on Oct 30, 2008 22:03:21 GMT
We know what your game is by now though don't we? This has fcuk all to do with how Kitson plays or his merits as a signing, you are simply using him as a stick to beat Pulis with in your continuing laughable campaign to undermine him, Christ only knows what you get out of it. You've been churning out this bollox for years now, isn't it time to give it a rest? You've still got a chip on your shoulder after making a buffoon of yourself about Coates.

RAF...You talk some shit at times mate, you really do. ;D
GUTLESS CAPITULATION is something that this side of ours can never ever be accused of. At City we were beaten by the better team on the day, but I would be fairly confident of turning them over on our own patch.
As for signings, apart from Kitson, I actually think that all will go on to prove really useful to our club. Kitson will hopefully turn it around and we aren't really doing him any favours, but the rest have been fine in my opinion.
We are a million miles away from the team we had last season!
