Just as an observation/discussion pont. I'm actually more warey of lads dressed in "non-colours" (ie Stone Island, Rockport, Burberry etc) - the 'casuals' than some rowdies in football shirts and scarves. I usually find in match situations, the colours are just up for a good time and a laugh whilst the "casuals" skulk around looking shifty and suspicious. I don't know what they train coppers to look for in football crowd situations (I'll ask my frend in the Met in a couple of weeks), but I know which type I'd have my eye on more.

Hey up Ben, you got a right slating for that and what was supposed to be a fun initation day to the prem, to be fair lads like yourself add to the "flavour" of the day wigs, inflatibles etc, few drinks but i doubt as you've said you were looking for trouble, it is unfortunate that you may have got mixed up with a few that were though. I'm of the opinion that if trouble comes looking for you then you have to react but since the 70/80's football is more of a family game but do not, (and this applies to all who have said there's no trouble) be under any illusion that the trouble WILL find those who act like they did on Sat. I've been to many other fixtures both in England and North of the border and not so long ago witnessed someone blow a whistle, masks donned, tear gas thrown, and fans on the end of a right good battering, all in the presence of the police who did'nt really know what was going on. As someone else has mentioned what happened in Manchester will not have gone un-noticed and others will unfortunately be paying the price when we visit there. Don't want to go on about it but we are far from the only club with a trouble element, but i'm of the opinion i'd rather have them around when trouble comes a calling than not. That is not condoning violence in any way.

There were one or two of the "lads dressed in non colours" as you say there, but most were in colours / normal fans & swedish stokies, then there was 3 of us doing abit of fancy dress for a laugh. Nothing more than abit of fun, but obviously in some peoples eyes, i.e bunny boiler, its a crime and we should not go dressed up and should stick to Civvy clothes.
Ah well, cant have it all my way, but I'll be turning up to plenty more games in red hats / wigs / something which most find amusing. When I see you next Bunny, i'll introduce myself in my fancy dress orate?

What a great thread. I'm backing Ben here. If he wants to dress up, sing anti shit songs and generally be a bit of a cunt then go for it. No use crying if you get a kicking though Ben. We were all young once, apart from the minority of gay Stoke fans ie teachers, authors and those who knew they were too shit to fight and so never gave hooliganism a go.

Broadwayroundabout - Thankyou, someone who talks sense...
There wasnt really much of a reaction from anyone in Manchester, they were all smiling, taking pictures, and laughing at our songs towards the police, didnt really get many "lads" giving us much attention.

"You stick to your back pack, bum bag and the likes and turn up and be a good samaritan"
You haven't got a clue, have you? Mind you, I'd rather wear the aforementioned than a curly red wig etc.
Well done for scaring Mancunian shoppers. I bet your mob would have turned Primark's firm over if you had the chance, eh?

Ben,
each to their own I suppose. But one thing you need to learn - with football supporters in dodgy situations, it's a matter of guilty by association, rightly or wrongly. You were obviously in the wrong place, wrong time etc.
As for wigs, sorry people, it's summat I'll never see the funny side.
MCF, you have my cv there, I see!?!?!

The point I'm interested in, in all of this, is the legal rights of Mr Plod to detain a crowd and frogmarch them across a city at their will.
I'm sure there'll be something about prevention of public order offences in there, but lets say your man Ben wanted to just walk off in a different direction, how far would the police go to stop him doing it?
What if he lived round the corner?

I must say that we, the 4 Swedish Stokies present for this historic game, were extremely unlucky, as we happened to end up in the middle of this. But looking back at it, it actually makes me smile a bit! :-) I must say many policemen (and policewomen) here in Sweden can be very daft, especially when it comes to those on duty during derby games here in Stockholm, so it wasn´t a very big surprise that it was almost impossible to have some kind of conversation with the Gtr. Manchester police surrounding us. I/we´ve been there before, so to speak. We were trying to say to them that we would very much like to be released from this "flock of sheep"-situation, as we were in fact not even remotely intrested in going on train to S-o-T, as we were Swedish Stokies staying at a hotel centrally located in Manchester. Within shouting distance of the final destination, the Man.Piccadilly, we eventually got "kicked out" of this chaotic farse, being pushed in our backs at least a dozen of times, each, and could finally escape this madness!
The thing we were all discussing afterwards (the four Swedes, tha is), was: How big/small are the odds that 4 Stokies travelling from Sweden ends up in a group of people consisting of about 75-100 at the most, ending up being harrassed by the local policeforce, whilst there are 1000´s of Stokies at the stadium. Quite a joke, really!
Anyway, it was a great day in Bolton, great atmosphere at the Beehive prior the game, and inside the away stand. Too bad we lost, and had to experience the chaos afterwards, but all in all we went home with smiles on our faces. We´ll be back soon again!! :-)
Cheers

Now be a real man, Ben.
You can partially redeem youself, by publicly apologising (on here) to the majority of Stokies, for the misery of the ID cards, which are still in place because of your ilk.
Amazingly, some still wonder why we continue to have them.
Incidentally, if you still cannot understand why anyone, let alone Mancs, are offended by those Munich chants, may I suggest that you read Lou Macari's book? Then ask him how he'd feel if any football supporters walked alongside him, chanting 'whose that hanging from the tree?'
Such folk are utterly sick and to brag about it is beyond belief.

Surreystokie I'll be nice to you, as your "Female". Your post sums up what most people on here are like, jumping to conclusions, not seeing it from the group that were detained...point of view, and being to quick to judge. If you had taken the time to read what I had put, and thought about it...like a few people have and have responded with something balanced and worthy! But instead you jumped on the bandwagon to abuse my good self. So heres my message to you! Read it all again, think about it, stop chatting shyte a bout "Id Cards" and me being amazed at why we still have them? You what ?! ! I have "Redeemed" myself as you put it, I said sorry for my small part in singing along with the rest of the group. And just to clarify I wasnt "bragging" about it. So there you go ! If your sticking with your last post, sorry but go and F*** yourself! .

Ben 2004- I do agree that some people have gone over the top in realtion to this post. I dont think for one minute that your a hooligan.
I had a spell of going away games a couple of years ago on train and your experience is what i think will happen the majority of games this season.
why???
Because we still have so called fans who think we are in the middle of the 80's still. Going away games for trouble and picking on anyone they can. It really pisses me of that you can't go anywhere be it up Hanley on a Friday night or Stoke at the weekend without people wanting to carve your head in.
Just be careful how you respond to peoples opinions because although a lot of them have been over the top your responses have been quite abrupt.
Just stick to having a laugh mate and dont get involved in the shit. I think some people are going get hurt this season mate.
Big John

99% of the people willingly involved in the trouble, looking for trouble and acting badly in Bolton or Manchester would have been id card holders. The scheme is now totally corrupted and filled with old, new and up and coming hooligans. Apart from a small group of the 'top boys' by far the largest group being kept away are those who refuse to apply for a card, this group if allowed to go might actually have a diluting effect on the whole.
