derby were in desperate need of quality defenders last season, would they have let him go if he was good enough for the premiership? If it hadn't have been for his injury, we would have been stuffed. It isn't a coincidence that we started shipping goals upon his arrival at the brit

Not defending Griff, who was mediocre at best, but to explain why TP played him on the right and Wilko on the left - this has to be linked to Kevin Davies playing wide right. The theory, which obviously didn't pay off for their second goal, surely was that Wilko, a natural centre half, would be better able to defend against Davies in the air than Griff.
One of Bolton's tactics for many years has been Davies pulling out wide to nod down raking balls aimed at the full back. We knew about it but still didn't defend it well.
Wilko had a shocker, but so did Ryan, especially for their second and third goals. Let's hope Andrew Davies and Abdoulaye Faye come in to strengthen the defence against a rampant Villa. I'd play Davies right back, Cort and Faye centrally and Dicko on the left.

So the needless free kick he conceded played absolutely no part in the third Bolton goal then? Yep just watching the replay here and I've just seen Griff's oaf-like challenge on the Bolton play was going away from our goal and absolutely no threat. Griff just bumbled in meaninglessly took his legs and directly from said free kick Bolton scored. The challenge was non-league standard . . .
