I think Jezza is right.
We need the left back to have a bit of pace though, I think.

Surprised we diodn't go in for Hoyte, Boro had a bid accepted then said they would wait 2 days to discuss terms - we should have made him feel a bit more wanted... I've got nothing that is gospel fact but i've been told by a source i trust (i think lol) that he was one of his main targets this summer along with Kitson, Oli and also Dawson from Spurs. To be fair to TP though we heard very little about Kitson & Oli until we had them so i'm sure Tone did have discussions about Hoyte but i dont know how far we got with it.

If there's anything in it, he certainly seems to have made an impression at Southampton. Makes the Amdy Faye signing, even with his potential filling in in his secondary position of CB, even stranger though, as Davies would be another excellent option at centre-half, seemingly his primary position www.southampton-mad.co.uk/news/loadnews.asp?cid=TMNW&id=391409Andrew Davies - the only player in the squad who hasn't put a foot wrong all season. His willingness to fight for the cause was illustrated by his desire to play through injury and indeed it took a triple fracture of the cheekbone which put his eye at risk to keep him off the pitch! Unfortunately, he only joined mid-way through and missed the crucial final few games, otherwise he surely would have been a shoe-in for player of the season. A brave and commanding defender still in his early twenties he has many years ahead of him and looks set to continue the improvement he showed in just a few months on the pitch for Saints. www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/?page_id=10051Meanwhile, the Flybe Fans' Player of the Season award went to defender Andrew Davies whose gritty and determined attitude proved a shot in the arm for Saints during the second half of the season. Davies said: "I was really pleased to pick up an award. I knew that coming here from Middlesbrough and being able to play regular football would bring out the best in me and that is what it has done. I am grateful to the fans who voted for me. I am a long way from home and it is great that the Saints fans have shown me their support in this way." www.saintsfc.com/news/latest/review-of-the-players-2007/08.htmlDavies – 9 – My Player of the season. Young, dedicated, gets stuck in, and knows when to pass and when to just clear. Future captain. A must keep. www.dailyecho.co.uk/mostpopular.var.2196331.mostcommented.vote_for_your_saints_player_of_the_season.phpDavies, Oh how we would have been a different team had he been here since last summer, Leader, Passionate and definatley a future England player, pipped by John due to only being with us 6months, and has been injured the last few weeks!

They're in a right mess financially though - so I'm sure they're open to offers. Sounds like there'd be a bit of a backlash if they tried it though.

He got completely pole-axed in the game against us at the Brit, down by the Boothen End, I seem to remember. He seems like another one of these who doesn't mind getting stuck in, from what I've seen of him. Probably not in Abdoulaye's league for "Hardness" though ;D Welcome to the Britannia...........this is gonna hurt

Davies is a very physical defender when I have seen him play -still young and a bit raw, but looks like one of those lads who likes to defend, puts his body on the line etc. Right up our Tone's street me thinks.

Just been told that we have signed a new full back a lad called Davis from Southampton, and that after him and the 2 Faye's all other signings will be loan deals, and apparently Rudgey is in Barcelona trying to sort a loan out who told you? is it reliable? Yes very reliable. The person was told by the players representative who happens to have links with Beswicks solicitors. He also told him that this would be our last permanent signing after the Fayes and that Rudgey is now in Barcelona trying to sort out a loan deal. Still at bloody work though so cant get any moe info, but definately named Davies or Davis because I checked it wasn't Surman

Still cant find out which Davis or Davies it is. But his agent said he is definately signing.
Still at work, heard Amdy Faye is a 12 month loan, and that we have sold Rooney for 50k, is that right?

Faye is 12 months but permanent. Rooney's gone to Inverness for 50k. Edit - that's a season-long loan, btw.

Amdy down as a perm Matt but I think the fact it is only a one yr deal where Charlton most likely pay a portion of his wages means it amounts to the same thing but leaves us with a domestic loan space

Just been told that Rudgey is in Barcelona trying to sort a loan out Would that be Eto'o or Gudjohnsen then? As for this guy being another CB, don't forget TP once played eight CBs in a 0-0 at Palace when he first arrived. You can't have too many in a TP team!

Potters in talks with a Saint, as Ipswich get Volz and eye Magpie

Stoke have agreed a £1.5million fee for Andrew Davies and are now set for talks with the Southampton defender.
Former Middlesbrough man Davies, 23, can play at right-back or centre-back.
Meanwhile, Ipswich have had a £500,000 bid accepted for Fulham’s Moritz Volz

Good info, monkey!
To attract the superlatives he is doing from the Saints fans, £1.5m seems laughably cheap - even if he is more of a CB than a RB ;D

Saints fans seem to think 4m would be okay!
The bit about him moving to get away from full-back duties is as concern if that's the intention!
Bloody hope not! Im relatively unbothered by Saga and Rasiak but to lose Davies would be awful unless for 4m. Reply With Quote
DEAR GOD NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
VERY bad idea.
BUT, one good piece to deduce from the article
1) It is a rumour mill 2) Davies stated clearly in an interview when he signed for us that the main reason he left Boro was that they used him at full back and he doesn't like playing there and Saints said he'd be a centre back.
And I don't think he moved here to improve for half a season with a view to a long term career aiming at one of the top 5 clubs to blow it all for one season in a struggling side where he would be made to look bad every week.
Chill.
no we must keep davies he is our most important player
I believe it was said at the fansforum that Davies was deemed essential to the team and was not one of the players for sale? Now I know that everyone is for sale at a certain price but Stoke will have to pay topprice for Davies if they would want them.
I would take £4 Million for Davies it would probably sort out our financial situation
I have always been a little concerned whether Davies and Svennson would work as they are fairly similar
Well they have never played together yet so it's just speculation on your part. I am quite looking forward to the pair playing in the heart of our defence.
If we sell Davies I will be so ****ing ****ed off. Might as well give up and just accept we will be in league one next year.
We would be mad to even consider selling him for just 1.5m.
This is a joke surely. If he goes and at that stupid price then I may just have to follow Alpine and hang myself a noose..................................
If he goes then we are off to League 1. It is that simple for me. Reply With Quote
