Just been told that we have signed a new full back a lad called Davis from Southampton, and that after him and the 2 Faye's all other signings will be loan deals, and apparently Rudgey is in Barcelona trying to sort a loan out

Just checked on the southampton site he can play right back as well. Always thought he was a decent player. Still young as well.

From Wiki on Andrew Davies
Davies was born in Stockton-on-Tees and went to Northfield School which is located in Billingham near Middlesbrough. He joined Middlesbrough as a thirteen year old and moved up the ranks of the club, achieving a place in the reserve side. He made his debut on November 6, 2002, in a League Cup defeat against Ipswich Town. He made several appearances during the 2003–04 season before suffering a broken leg in a reserve league game.
During January 2005 he joined Queens Park Rangers on loan, remaining there for three months. In July 2005 he was loaned out again, to Derby County. This was initially for a period of six months, although it was later extended to a full season's loan. However, an injury crisis at Middlesbrough prompted them to recall Davies in January 2006, after all. The player had generally impressed during his time at Derby, despite being sent off on three occasions.
Andrew Davies signed for Southampton on October 9, 2007 on an initial 3 month loan with a view to a permant transfer in January.[1] On 10 January 2008 the signing was made permanent, for an undisclosed fee.[2]
On March 20, 2008 it was confirmed Andrew Davies would miss the rest of the 2007–08 season with a fractured cheek bone.
Note the broken leg, fractured check bone so missed half the season and getting sent off 3 times when he had a run in the team. Looks like it could be true then! ;D
I don't know anything about him, anyone seen him play or heard he's signing?

www.saintsfc.co.uk/news/?page_id=9100Saints have bolstered their defence by bringing in Middlesbrough centre-back Andrew Davies on loan with a view to a permanent deal. The 22-year-old has initially signed a three-month deal with a view to buy him when the transfer window opens in January. George Burley had to beat off strong competition from Coca-Cola Championship rivals Hull to land the highly-rated defender who can play in the centre or at right-back. He said: "I am delighted to have got Andrew. He is a player I have admired for a while and he will give us extra options and cover at the back. "He is a very promising player who has good ability and experience of playing in the top flight and he will be a very useful addition for us. "He is strong, quick and good in the air. He has learned his trade with Middlesbrough and there were a few clubs chasing him. He is an ambitious lad and I am very pleased he is coming here." With Claus Lundekvam sidelined until the New Year, Darren Powell recently injured and Christian Dailly's one-month loan due to expire soon, the arrival of the talented England Under 21 international will strengthen Saints at the back. Davies signed professional terms with Boro in October 2002 after impressing in the Under 19's and as captain of the Reserves. He made his first start in a 3-1 Worthington Cup defeat at Ipswich in November 2002 and his Premiership debut three months later in a 5-2 reverse at home to Aston Villa. The 2003/04 campaign saw the youngster play 10 more senior games before his season ended prematurely when he suffered a broken leg during a reserve team game in March 2004. Davies battled back strongly and made two further first-team appearances before joining QPR on a month's loan in January to gain experience. After an impressive spell, QPR tried to extend the loan but he returned to the Riverside making a further three appearances. In July he moved to Derby County on loan until January 2006, but returned to the Riverside to play a significant role in their journey to the semi-finals of the FA Cup and final of the UEFA Cup. He made 23 appearances last season and has played four Premiership and two Carling Cup games this campaign but he has struggled to hold down a regular starting place. Now he is looking to establish himself in the Southampton side and boost their promotion push for another crack at the Premiership.

ANDREW DAVIES
Davies is on the verge of resuming training, following a summer lay-off for pre-arranged surgery on a leg he broke while at Middlesbrough. His right ankle and knee were both operated on and he will now begin strength training, with a view to a return to full-fitness within the next fortnight.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if it's true. My info is that Justin Hoyte was Tone's No 1 choice but we look like we've missed out on that one now so i said yesterday that Tone's plan B full back could be in very soon as Plan A has now gone and maybe this was him. No nothing about him personally but my old nan could a better show up than Griff and we've got no cover so it can only be good news

6' 3" - so he fits the Pulis bill as a tall full-back who can cover at CB (I always thought that was his main position?) It kind of fits.

Surprised we diodn't go in for Hoyte, Boro had a bid accepted then said they would wait 2 days to discuss terms - we should have made him feel a bit more wanted...

If he does come and play right back, he seems to be a bit of a Wayne Thomas of a full back.
I would much rather we sign an attacking pacey right back than a big converted centre half, but that is TP's wont.
Also, our full backs are bound to have to do a fair bit of defending this season, so maybe one who is sound defensively more than one who will overlap the winger is more what is required!
