Aim to be champions and piss this tin pot league, the same as it should be at the start of every season. What happens after that is normally the problem but why not dream.

The interview SS did for Stoke after the game on Saturday was spot on, basically said that there’s nothing to celebrate and it’s more relief, but this club and squad need to be focused on the other end of the table. The goal is 3 wins on the bounce. For me next season is having the ethos of having the mentality & belief to be a top 6 club. And that mentality has to include taking this league seriously. All this talk of it being shit is part of the problem. You don't get promoted but being the biggest egotistical bunch of twats in the league. You get promoted by taking every game seriously and accepting you are in a dog fight for 46 games and have no divine right to promotion. Until everybody associated with the club gets that we are doomed to look like a bunch of whining entitled bellends regularly losing to teams who treat the competition with the respect it deserves.

No it’s not. We’ve given it way too much respect. Managers shitting themselves at home playing fucking Norwich and the like. Grow up. The recipe for success in this league is pretty straightforward.

If this is a tin pot league then we are just another tin pot club that make it up.
I don't really get all the criticism of this league.
Did I somehow miss the Golden Age of Championship/2nd Division football in this country?

Did I somehow miss the Golden Age of Championship/2nd Division football in this country? I think the standard this year has been very high. The best it’s been since we dropped without a doubt. Prem clubs who have been coasting like Brentford, Palace, and one or two others will get pulled into a relegation scrap because the quality of the promoted teams this year is far better than last season.

Did I somehow miss the Golden Age of Championship/2nd Division football in this country? 2nd division football was worse, much worse 50 years ago. Maybe the bad odour has remained, while many clubs and the league with them has improved.

After these latest results, I've got great hope for next season. So much so, that I renewed my season card today. We have some very exciting players now, with more to follow I'm sure, from Jarod's little book. Can't wait for the good times to roll. Jump on the band-waggon, why don't you.

Read my post again. The aim should be to be champions as it should at the start of every season. Strange, because by your own admission, you don’t watch any championship football. How would you know this? I watch us and the teams we play? You need a solid base, decent depth, 2/3 players that will score 10+ goals and I think now the ability to keep the ball to limit fatigue is coming into it. Like I said. It’s not rocket science and hasn’t changed much since we come up.

The problems come after the season starts for not just us but many teams but it doesn't mean that it shouldn't be the aim/dream or whatever you want me to call it. I still think there's a big difference between aim/target and dream. We can all dream - indeed we should - I'm sure the chairman does too. But if Jon Coates announces at the start of the season that scfc's realistic aim is to become champions, it will create a lot of false hope among some fans, moreover he will be held to those words each time there's a bad result, while others will consider calling for psychiatric help for the chairman. It's much better to set targets a little lower and then the team can surprise us all...

Then act accordingly should the team and manager fall too short. If by January we look to be falling short of that aspiration there ought to be intense scrutiny

Of course doing it is a completely different thing but that should be the aim.

If then we end up in the top 7 by March, they can tell Schuhmacher, good work, now finish it, we'll support you upon promotion.

Every club kicks off on the first day of the season with the intention of finishing in the top six. The entire reason the second tier exists is to enable clubs to get promoted to the PL. That's it.

Can you be more average than average? To aggrandize the word average with ‘very’ never seemed right to me, but to then add ‘fucking’, too. Surely ‘very fucking average’ is still just, well…. Average 😉😉

We should aim for promotion. Anything else is defeatist for a club of our financial clout. However, realistically I’d be pretty happy if we finish in the top half, which we’ve done only three times in the last sixteen seasons, and win more league games than we lose, which we’ve done only once in the last sixteen seasons. It would also be nice if we could retain a manager for the entire season, which we’ve only done twice in the last seven seasons. I’d also like to not leave any home games thinking “Why did I bother today?”. Does FFP still apply? I thought that’s what is stopping us using our “financial clout”? We could get playoffs, or could get 21st. Its not Football Manager…

Supporters by and large know nothing about running a club. That’s got nothing to do with it. I’m sorry, you’re talking absolute bollocks. In the nicest possible way I agree. It was a silly remark. What I should have said is , you are too stupid to learn from the experience of the past six seasons where we have targeted promotion each time and have failed utterly, finishing in the bottom half each season. Having such a lofty target have only put too much pressure on the players and they have struggled/failed to respond. But you are right in a way. The championship works in such a way that until fairly late in the season when there's a clearer picture, all teams are either chasing promotion or fighting relegation, sometimes both! There is no big six, where you can fill in the clubs that are always up there, as you can in the PL, and there are no teams who are inherently bottom six, because if there was, at some point they would be relegated. Us next season, perhaps. I had a verbal fight like this with someone earlier this year who blew a fuse when I said we had a below mediocre team and we had no business aiming for promotion. You could say I was proven right, but of course I wish I wasn't. And now I think we have the nucleus of an above mediocre team, if we keep the best of them (more than just the Baes and Burgers) together and don't ruin it by bringing in too many new players who don't fit . But unlike previous tds, sds, and selfcentred managers, this time I believe SJW will rise above that and get the work done.
