It would appear SJW is providing the leadership we so badly needed. Isn’t that the head coach’s job? In an alternate reality, I’d love to see where we’d be now if SJW hadn’t come in (regardless of Tricky being sacked).

This is the type of thread that really pisses me off. Get a grip- this season has been nothing to celebrate overall. I’m as relived as anyone and was buzzing with todays result. However- celebrating failure is the biggest problem amongst this clubs fanbase. Demand more!!!

Absolutely nothing to celebrate. Another shite season where we got closer to relegation than any other. Well done lads. Considering how poor at times we have been this season I’ve been celebrating out in wakey. I’m over joyed

Call me a sourpuss but I find it hard to celebrate avoiding relegation from the championship. Relief is my overriding feeling along with embarrassment But well done to the away fans for continuing to travel in such numbers despite the fodder being served up most of the year I agree with this bloke, it's embarrassing. I'm ashamed and we need to draw a curtain across this season, pretend it never happened, and never speak of it again. Underperformed in front of the whole English-Football-following world yet again. Surviving the drop to the third tier with just one game to go is not a reason for applause.

Walters has been appointed as Technical Director I believe, so surely the leadership comes from Him? If not, what does he Direct?

From Neil to Schumacher is worth celebrating. The signing of Burger, Bae Jun Ho and Million. The emergence of some genuine team spirit and a growing bond between team and supporters. The fact that the supporters stuck with the players and brought back some of the old atmosphere. A chink of blue sky in the gloom that shrouded the club half way through the season. Not our finest season but far from our worst. It’s not. We should still just about sack him imo. And I think he’ll be gone by October still even now. This season has been fucking atrocious. The home form has been appalling and there’s very little to look forward to. We need 7 new first teamers minimum and will likely finish bottom half again. Great. Fuck me Bayern He deserves to get his own pl as yers in and to give him a chance. We have stayed up and 3 or 4 weeks ago I thought that was impossible. We are staying up say

Firing Ricky Martin and getting Walters in is worth celebrating!
I've finished a couple of bottles of champagne when I heard both bits of news. 🍾
I opened up the third bottle just now . Cheers!

However- celebrating failure is the biggest problem amongst this clubs fanbase. Demand more!!! Sorry you disapprove Ron, but today, compared to yesterday, is indeed a celebration. Nobody is more aware than myself that this season has been a near disaster and one which will be consigned to the dustbin of history in quick time. Nobody I don’t think is actually celebrating ‘failure’, but expressing a huge sigh of relief that we won’t be replacing the great unwashed in the League below. Just for a short time, let’s not be meely mouthed and arsey and be glad that today has been a better day than yesterday was.

Personally our inability to seriously challenge for promotion since our relegation has been inexcusable (diplomatically said) I’m hoping we’ve turned the corner with the character of SJW and the promising potential of SS (and team). Time will tell… Anyone who travelled to Southampton today……..Take the credit……Brilliant

Disaster of a Season considering our clear objectives in August which were promised by Niell and Martin. However a Massive success for Schumacher and Walters. Maybe just maybe we have found a stable partnership in these two. Stoke Away followings as always have been immense considering the dross we have been watching. Our leaders need to be Ultra Focussed on replacing the sub standard playing and coaching staff with much better people. Come on Stoke, Fucking switch on and get back in the game. 👍

Disagree 100% We've been in a relegation battle because we were crap and have survived. So glad that we aren't in League 1 next season. Easily pleased, maybe but I've been on cloud 9 since the final whistle.

The way I see it is that’s it’s been another very poor season. To be celebrating staying up… no thanks.
As already said our fans are great & deserve a lot more.

I’m not quite sure about “congratulations” to the club but there’s absolutely nothing wrong with celebrating our survival.
Long run, not a lot has changed, the direction of the club is still highly questionable and I don’t particularly expect next season to be a whole lot better (although I do have slightly more hope than I did a few weeks ago).
But in context, an away win to fully secure our status in the division is absolutely a source of relief, happiness, and yes, celebration. These things are not contradictory.

Us fans have been something else, I know I'm biased but the away support has been unreal, I truly believe we'd have gone down if we hadn't have pulled together It's a very happy coach I'm on here It's been an awful season on the pitch. The supporters deserve most the credit this season. Home and away - It's been absolutely incredible week in week out and an amazing representation of this historic club and city of Stoke on Trent ❤️🤍

Schumacher I can live with, but contrary Bayern who could have an argument with himself in a phone box, thrives on any sensible comment for some reason. It’s not as if he ever goes to away games either!

I sensed at the final whistle yesterday that SS was relieved to get it done, the players came over and applauded us all but in a low key fashion than I’ve previously seen in recent weeks.
Even SS interview highlighted frustration, stating that the recent performances since March would have been stats similar to a play off team, but we shouldn’t have been where we were or are in the league.
Hopefully this is the start of a new beginning? There appears a new mindset with SJW & a unity with SS. For me Ricky Martin didn’t give me that impression.
I hope we can get a result next Saturday and the fans stick around so the players can applaud us the fans (especially after performances at home).
I feel we the fans deserve that lap of honour this time round.

Ignore any positives to end of the season, sack the manager and perform another massive overhaul of the squad led by an inexperienced Sporting Director? Are you sure you don't enjoy a relegation battle? The dual narrative where our squad is shit, yet Schumacher should be sacked for not turning them into a good Championship side overnight is weird.

It’s been our worst season in 20 years and probably top 5 over about the last 40 years. And people are acting like we’ve just done ok because we’ve won a few at the end of the season. Ever likely I don’t think the cycle of shit will change. The narrative is that I think most of the team need replacing and so does the manager.
