He was crap tonight. The law says that he shouldn't allow the goal to stand if the 'keeper has the ball in both hands and he is CHALLENGED for the ball. He was not CHALLENGED. He literally bounced the ball on Ennis's head himself. Terrible decision. He was right on the spot for the 'penalty' incident and their player was clearly challenged OUTSIDE the box. Yes, as ALBERT SAYS... he should take a bow for his incompetence. OS. Our goal was absolutely nothing and should have stood. The penalty was a tackle on McNally and should have been a free kick for us. He gave them soft FKs all night, and nothing for us, even if they were pushing with straight arms and playing dirty all night. Keith Stround wouldn't understand football if we kicked it in his face, and should frankly be investigated for corruption. It's not possible to be that bad and not be bent. Did we deserve to lose? Yes we did. Poor tactics (trying to play it along the ground in 5 inches of water, WTF?!?), poor work rate (bar Manhoef) and poor game management. This one was 50% Schuey and 50% the players. Yep they got the ball into the box quickly , we messed around trying to play in inches of water as you said. They closed us down as and gave us no room to play Good performance by Swans, awful by us but those 2 decisions were huge

Just seen the penalty decision again and it really is a shocking decision. It’s a foul on McNally and also not in the box. We were hopeless but at 1-0 you never know. That goal pretty much finished us off.

We’d have lost that if we’d been reffed by the most Stoke biased you could find. The ref would have had to kick it into their net for us Did we have a shot on target Yes the disallowed goal... goals change games no matter how bad we were..

Not tonight Albert. Miles off mate. We got what we deserved. Got what we deserved I agree but, and a big but, who knows how we would have played had Ennis's goal stood and we'd gone in level at half time, totally different team talk, or if we hadn't conceded a second early in the second half. Those two decisions decided the direction of the game. Reversed, their gk may have been nervy, at 1-1 the crowd may have got restless, they were definitely critical of the team's recent performances pre match. We may not have played any better but at 1-1 we had something to defend and a point against a rival is very important. Swansea are safe now thanks to two refereeing decisions which at this stage of the season when club's and managers futures are dependent on good luck as much as performances Swansea certainly got a big slice of it last night. I don't see how a deserved result can excuse an atrocious refereeing performance. Proved tonight how important it is to have VAR although the way it goes I suspect our goal would still have been disallowed but they wouldn't have had a penalty.

I dunno about anyone else but the white lines looked barely visible, surely there are rules regarding that.

I just can't be doing with the excuse riddled whining about referees when we've just put in a performance like that. Had we battered Swansea and that decision affected the game I could understand it. As it was, a meek and mild performance when we needed a performance of giants. Each to their own.

Wasn’t the challenge on Burger worthy of a red card?

Wasn’t the challenge on Burger worthy of a red card? That, and the shove from Darling on Hoever while he was unbalanced. They got away with everything, we got away with nothing. The only thing the ref got right was the penalty shout from the first half where Rose just barely got the ball first.

It definitely matters. Going 1-1 then could have changed the whole game around. That’s how football can work.
Absolute shocking decision.

Wasn’t the challenge on Burger worthy of a red card? Yep. Someone should have given Paterson a good shove after that and stirred it up to make it a decision for the referee. As it was, I don't even think anyone actually went over to Burger to see if he was OK.

I'd just have to elbow the little rat eyed prick when the chance presented itself...

As bad as we were...and we were bad. Goals change games though and had we equalised we have no idea what would have happened. He got 2 goal decisions wrong Instead of 1-1 it's 2-0 It’s a massive difference for a team that is struggling in front of goal. We were robbed by the referee, maybe we’d have lost anyway but we’d have been in the game for a bit longer at least. The referee had far more of an impact on the game than he should’ve done, it was one of the most incompetent refereeing performances I’ve seen in years.

Absolutely How many times do you see a team second best, grab a goal then a different game ? So often happens to us at home, on top or in the lead , conceded then a different game . As bad as we were, two decisions that massively changed the scoreline were the turning point

As it was, I don't even think anyone actually went over to Burger to see if he was OK. It maddens me how soft we are. Hoever is one of the worst offenders. Getting turned inside out by a winger is one thing, but he always limply lets them saunter past him instead cynically hacking them down from behind and taking his booking. Two poor decisions from the referee last night and we looked like we'd barely noticed. Opponents flying into challenges against us and we just meekly took it on the chin. I thought that they'd learnt their lesson about this in the Middlesbrough game.

He penalised Ennis as well for a good strong tackle inside their box. Clearly took the ball.

I know Pearson and Burger and perhaps Thompson dish it out a bit, but other than them we're so soft. When someone goes in hard and unfair, make something of it like our opponents seem to do. Instead we get Vidigal looking for free kicks when someone breathes on him. We just do everything wrong.

You have to be the most incompetent ref I've seen for many years and that really is an achievement. Gouranga. I can't remember a game where he hasn't been really shit for us! He decided the outcome of the game yesterday and that's a disgrace!

I get that, but do you think, regardless of how Stoke played, that that refereeing performance was of the standard that should be required in the second tier of the best league in the world? I've seen better referees in the non league. If those decisions had been made against a better team than Stoke would they have been any worse or are referees allowed to make bad decisions against teams who are playing badly to make sure the best team wins? This thread is about the refereeing performance. There are other places to talk about the team performance and to be fair to Schumacher he never allowed Sky to draw him into blaming the referee for our performance or the result.

In away games on an unpleasant night weatherwise and the chances are most refs (especially south of Watford) hate stoke we cannot afford to play three lightweights like Vidigal, Manhoeff or even Juno - they just could not cope with the physicality without a strong ref protection and no VAR. As much as I think he's a bit of a donkey that game might have been better for Wesley to put himself about and take whatever flak was going up front. Same as the Huddersfield Game where Michael Helik who just dominated their box & ours when he went up for SEt Pieces.
So Thompson should have started with a more solid team - On the night Swansea wanted it more and we would have been fortunate to win even with those terrible ref decisions

It poses an interesting time wasting tactic where you keeper just runs into the opposition player and drops the ball to get a free kick
