Wednesday by a long way in Sheff. Bristol I assume City but they’re both pretty tinpot aren’t they let’s be honest I was shocked to learn this week that Bristol City had a higher average attendance than us this season. Respect, always thought they were a sleeping giant 😬

Dundee and Dundee United is an interesting one - Dundee historically were the bigger team. Dundee Hibernian (means Ireland) nearly went out of business in the 1920s and changed their name to Dundee United in order to appeal to a larger catchment. They then dotted about the lower leagues until 1960 where Jerry Kerr got them up and established in Division 1.
In comparison Dundee were only relegated twice from 1893 to 1975 and were promoted immediately the season after. They won the league in the 60s and then got to the semi finals of the European Cup under one Bill Shankly.
United then grew through 70s, won the league in 82 and came close to winning the UEFA cup. Dundee by late 80s were on the slide and got relegated then yoyo'd from there and at the moment United are probably in the same cycle.
Both have the same major honours: one league; 2 FA Cups and; 2 league cups. Dundee record attendance is 45k v Rangers in 1953 whereas United's is 28k v Barcelona but could have sold out multiple times over.
Would say from a fanbase perspective Dundee are typically more city orientated whereas United are probably more the suburbs and Broughty Ferry as a generalization.

Wolstanton was a two club village back in the day. Wanderers and Utd. Utd played on the lower marsh on a sloping pitch and Wanderers played on upper marsh, quagmire of a pitch, opposite the Cricketers Arms. Utd were the more successful team but both equally supported with crowds of 20-30 often attending. View AttachmentWanderers in the large check shirts I think. It may even be vs Utd because they played in maroon shirts. When I were a lad I moved to Maybank in 1970 on the big Marsh it was Wolstanton Utd and Maybank Utd used to play on the pitch opposite the Cricketers Arms alternate Saturdays. On the small marsh around same time Wolstanton Crusaders used to play on that pitch near the Wulstan pub.

I’ve got family in Dundee - none of whom have the slightest interest in football - but from the time I spent there talking to locals I certainly got the impression Dundee were considered the grand old traditional club while Utd were more the ‘upstarts come good’. Always seemed to be more Utd supporters around though. As with all of Scotland there were a depressing number who just focused on the Glasgow clubs.

Defo mate - Dundee is just about big enough for 2 teams but nae chance 4 and the number of buses leaving on match days watch the gruesome twosome is sole destroying. That's before you even get to the full kit Liverpool/ Man City/ etc wankers whose affiliation must come with their Sky Sports package.

It’s everywhere up there - I used to work in Edinburgh , two doors down from the Celtic club shop and in the next street to the Rangers one 😕 Mind you on a positive note I’m told both have closed down in the past few years .

In Santiago there are at least ten 1st or 2nd division teams. The biggest rivalry is Universidad de Chile and Colo Colo. Both can draw 50k crowds, both outnumber the home fans in most places they play, both have multiple titles and an international cup. But Colo Colo are the biggest - the team of the people, the club team that most represents Chile.
Same goes for Boca Juniors (vs River Plate) in Buenos Aires and Peñarol (vs Nacional) in Montevideo.
Brazil is another story.. Flamengo (vs Fluminense) in Rio have a good claim to be the best-supported club in the world in terms of numbers of supporters in their own country.

How many cities have two clubs? Stoke Liverpool Manchester Birmingham Nottingham Glasgow Bristol Dundee Hibernian Falkirk Does London inner city have two clubs, I know Chelsea has, but is that a borough, and do they count? Ironically in the city of ‘Hibernian’ Hearts are the bigger club. Although this probably depends on the support they draw in from the Lothians. Does'nt Edinburgh have 3 teams? Hibs Hearts Edinburgh City ( Bottom of Scottish League 1) as we speak.
