New order from Blue Monday onwards (New Order prior to Blue Monday were great) The Jam from Eton Rifles onwards (The Jam prior to Eton Rifles were also great) The Cure from love cats onwards
(The Cure prior to Love Cats were very good)
Many bands make their best stuff prior to making it big, after that they become smug, rich, parodies of their younger selves. Oh, and Daft Punk are absolutely wank Just like heaven, Friday I'm in love???? .... and I'm not a huge fan As you may have guessed I like my music to have some edge, Friday I'm in love is a cutesy , fairly bland little pop ditty, hardly "A Forest" is it

Second only to 'Technique' if you ask me (and that was released in 1989, long after 'Blue Monday'). You Sir, are talking bollocks 😅

Mentioning New Order and The Cure in the same thread as this is a criminal offence. Amongst all the shit heap of bands that have existed as well?... mental.

You Sir, are talking bollocks 😅 Power, Corruption and Lies is far better and was written & released before the blue monday thing got a hold. If you go and see them these days they play more tracks from pre blue monday re-release (1988) than post. So they themselves presumably agree. They threw themselves into populist techno disco bollocks because criminally "blue monday stylee" sold more records, fortunately they've come out the other side to some extent. nb) I may be biased - I walked up the aisle to "Ceremony"

Not a band, but MC Hammer. At the time his commercial brand of rap was seen as a sellout for a rebellious type of music. And yet he was as truly street-wise as any of his contemporaries supposedly.

Judas Priest were the worst band I ever saw live, they managed to maintain that incredibly low standard for many years afterwards.

I’ve never taken to AC/DC Shoot me I agree until I saw Brian Johnson doing a couple of AC/DC number's at the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert at Wembley. It blew me away or that might of been all the alcohol I had from the free bar

Judas Priest were the worst band I ever saw live, they managed to maintain that incredibly low standard for many years afterwards. Maybe the thread for this but on a much much lesser level, I saw a band called Sneaker Pimps (6 underground, spin spin sugar) live at their height in the 90's. I thought they were awful. So, to doubly make sure that I was right, I actually went watch them live again the week after, which basically confirmed what I originally thought, they were shite

I love the Jam but never got the Style Council. Always disliked Stereophonics like everyone else and not a fan of the Stone Roses but many are, for me I just never liked them.

They may have been the worst band you ever saw live, but that has nothing to do with their rightful place aloft. Absolutely earned every bit of fame they've achieved. Not sure metal would have ever been the thing it is had it not been for them.

In that case: Bon Jovi Aerosmith Pretty much any band that commercialised rock music with rock ballads! I think they called it progressive rock! Edit: What pretzel said! Progressive rock has nothing to do with commercialised rock ballards - unless of course you think King Crimsons 21st Century Schizoid Man is a ballard. You are thinking of Poodle Rock bands like Bon Jovi. That ain't progressive rock.
