I totally get it if you didn't like their pop incarnation, singing about microwave ovens and stuff, but how could anyone not appreciate their first album is beyond me... it's just pure ear honey. >>> pops 'six blade knife' onto my play next list on Spotify My Spotify playlist pretty much depends on my mood at the time but certain bands as said I could never listen to regardless of mood, age etc but I’ve found myself liking my wife’s playlist some times, ABBA, Sia and The Bee Gees There's something quite invigorating about sliding into your wife's Spotify playlist (mine I mean I've been with my missus a stupidly long time so it's obvious we'll have similar tastes and influences but every now and then I hear something she's put on and it floors me.. 'Wow, that's fantastic' I'll say. Then she goes and blows any credibility she's just amassed by saying 'yes I heard it on NCIS so I Shazamed it

Pink Floyd Red Hot Chilli Peppers Two polar opposites there for me. Appreciate Floyd but find RHCP well annoying Maybe a bit harsh on the Floyd as I’m probably not appreciating them as being in the 60s where they were more ahead of their time. Of that pyschadelic ilk I’d say I was more a Doors or Traffic fan.

Following on from the interesting thread of bands who “underachieved” thought I’d start one on overachievers. Exhibit A - Coldplay Quite agree, and just for laughs everything that portrays its self as r n b , nowt do with cold play they’re a just bit meh smiths like meh, I’ll get one more in , meh. Shit loads really all the ‘polished’ sound of rock like killers , I’ll include manic stream pretenders in there all just polished rock/pop, upto nowt.

Oh and the simiths, even tough the lead singer did describe the cramps as the most beautiful band ever, he ain’t winning me over with that, but love regurgitate it with a smiths fan.

Erm the Manic Street Preachers are a superb band. My opinion of course so don’t let that get in the way. Generation Terrorist from 1992 is one my favourite mainstream albums. Not so much when they got popular but still really good live. Opinions eh

OK, I wasn't going to play but...
Radiohead.
Almost as pretentious as some of the prog rock bands of the 70's (who I liked at the time)
Emporer's new clothes music

Don’t mean be offensive , certainly dismissive to my ears though. Just do not get it

I was one of those really annoying music snobs who'd go out of his way to like something if all the rest of the kids didn't 'get it' Then you get older and realise what you've been missing out on.

Fabulous band, quality album after quality album back in the day, a brilliant live stadium band as well. I saw U2 in a tiny venue when I was 13. They were fantastic. There was no one there. Was £1 to get in. Was just around the time Boy was about to come out Don't do concerts but they were something else back then

But completely up their own arse If they weren't as big probably wouldn't have noticed what shitty arse flaps they are and possibly would like more of their music Bob Geldof was on the box a few days back on a BBC tribute show to Irish music and he was having a swipe at Himself, Bono, Sinead, etc and said something like " the problem with Irish singers is when you put a microphone in front of them they don't know when to shut the fuck up" U2's music was fantastic. Yes, Sunday bloody Sunday, really encapsulates Sunday, get up, cut the lawn, wash the car, Sunday bloody Sunday! Perfect dad music! U2 stole Simple Minds career! 🤬

Any manufactured boy/girl band of the 90s and 2000s. Hate the fact that they are termed bands. Not one instrument between them. They are vocal groups and nothing more.

The Smiths are hugely overrated. I hate the sound of his voice and the arrogance. It is definitely irrational hatred because by all other measures I should like their music. The Killers also Muse after Absolution Radiohead after OK Computer Coldplay after A Rush of Blood to the Head Anything by the Gallagher brothers that isn’t Oasis
