Following on from the interesting thread of bands who “underachieved” thought I’d start one on overachievers.
Exhibit A - Coldplay

The Killers. Bland, gutless, mass-market, middle-class, characterless Dad-rock.

A month or so there was a day or two's worth of countdown to the biggest "throwback" this century and needless to say it was that Killer's choon

There’s certain bands that I honestly can’t listen to and find it strange other people can but hey ho U2, Pink Floyd for example but 98% of folk on here would not like my choice of bands

They're from Newcastle Upon Tyne not Newcastle Under Lyme

Same with Supertramp👀

Fabulous band, quality album after quality album back in the day, a brilliant live stadium band as well.

Same with Supertramp👀 Interesting both the early Crime of the Century and Crisis, what crisis were exceptional albums I'm not so fussed about the later mega commercially successful albums although there's no doubting the quality of the material.

Fabulous band, quality album after quality album back in the day, a brilliant live stadium band as well. But completely up their own arse If they weren't as big probably wouldn't have noticed what shitty arse flaps they are and possibly would like more of their music

Fabulous band, quality album after quality album back in the day, a brilliant live stadium band as well. Liked the early to mid 80’s stuff but after that I think the perception, and it’s certainly mine, that into the 90’s and beyond is a lot of “peacocking, look at me aren’t I brilliant” stuff that can stick in the craw.

Pink Floyd Red Hot Chilli Peppers Two polar opposites there for me. Appreciate Floyd but find RHCP well annoying

But they got too big Same with Oasis and BigFun How can a band get too big, it's a ludicrous thing to say. A band gets as big as the buying public allow. The Joshua Tree sealed their fate it's flawless and made them the biggest band in the world at the time. It didn't come along in isolation there had been a body of excellent albums that preceded it. It's already been mentioned though the title won't fit the replies. BigFun in the same sentence as U2
