Nice one Capt.... 👍🏼
I know this may not be popular with most on here, but I quite like Laurant (as a player that is)!!! I accept he may get things wrong at times on the pitch, which player doesn't??? I think the criticism he gets on here, isn't just a little over the top, it's quite a good way over the top!!!

Lyndon Gooch would be a better choice for captain...

He wouldn't be my choice as captain it has to be said but none of us has a clue what he's like behind the scenes, in the dressing room or for that matter actually on the pitch. Because he isn't screaming the odds in the refs face all game doesn't mean he's not a good skipper. A lot of people would choose Burger, but here we are missing him for two crucial games because he can't control himself let alone his team mates. No sane person would nominate Pearson as captain but Burger's disciplinary record is just as bad and that booking on Saturday was as brain dead as any of Pearson's. That said I would have Burger as captain over Laurent any day of the week, but that's based on personal prejudice rather than any inside knowledge.

Yes, Burger does get involved in organising and talking on the pitch, you know, doing the kind of things you would expect from a captain whereas you seldom, if ever see any of that from Laurent. With regards to Burger's disciplinary record we have to consider that he's still quite young and relatively inexperienced. Given a bit more time I think he'll calm himself down .

It's a weird one isn't it i think the fans would pick Burger, but actually it feels like in the short time Laurent has been re-instated to captain the form has picked up, maybe he's got more universal popularity amongst the team behind the scenes, and maybe (unfairly) Burger was seen by some as being something of teachers pet who's come in, been given the armband straight away and can do no wrong. Interestingly our form has also improved since Junior has been out injured another fan favourite. I love junior, and think he's going to be part of our core starting squad moving forward, but wonder if with current set up actually throws the shape slightly out of kilter somehow, maybe that was just because he was being played in Schueys inverted style ?

Or maybe they have been offered a massive bonus to stay up. haha, i did actually suggest that out of desperation a few weeks back. That John Coates could have called a meeting and said, "look you mercenary f*ckers i know a lot of you don't give a shit about the club and really want to be here, but keep us up and you'll get £______________ if we stay up, then you can kindly f*ck off in the summer. Anyone who is into the project long term, help keep us up and push us into the play-offs next year and you'll get 4 times that with a flake and sprinkles"

Our CDMs have to take risks or do the odd tactical foul. Pearson adds stupid shite on top, Burger seems more happy-go-lucky passionate so I think he could learn to tone it down a bit. No to Captain Gooch because he hasn't shown he should be a guaranteed starter.

I have noticed Laurent has upped his work-rate to what it should always have been to be honest. Hes a good intelligent player but he has played below his potential too often for us.
I actually think hes a good DM - he does track his man back and makes a lot of clearances in our box.
Him being captain does seem a bit strange, but maybe he's one of the good guys behind the scenes and keeping everyone happy. We dont see things like - who puts an arm around the new foreign lad who has just joined (the latest being Manhoef), and Josh does seem a fairly laid back friendly guy. Maybe thats his thing?
On the pitch for sure he could be more vocal - something that Berger quite clearly is. But maybe Berger is just an introvert off the pitch?!? who knows

I'm sure you're right. I think if he stays any length of time Burger will make a decent captain. I was just playing 'devils advocate' a bit because really we know nothing of what any of their personalities are like. People tend to want a leader who screams and shouts and is demonstrative on the pitch but sometimes the best leaders are the quieter more measured ones who deliver the rapier strike in private. Whelan being my favourite recent example.

It's not my money. Although I expect FFP would be all over it.

League One salaries can certainley focus the mind. Disgusting really. I watch a bit of non-league footy, the workrate, dedication and desire of Leek Town players, is something I'd like our Stoke squad to go and emulate.

Fuck me - a really positive piece from a player being positive after a series of positive results. So what happens? A feeding frenzy by a bunch of negative bastards who love to wallow in their own shit.
Well if there's a choice of lifeboats I know where I'm going to hang my lifebuoy. The one that might keep everyone afloat.

If that was the case perhaps they didn't feel able (or even care) to have a clear the air meeting until he'd been fucked off and Schumacher and Walters were handed back control of those areas?

I'm not saying there was any truth in it but it was definitely a rumour that was out there. Anyway, whether it's true or not it doesn't detract from my point that the players would have been aware of his influence and perhaps not felt able to hold a meeting if it might be seen to be undermining him? It seems like a coincidence that the meeting took place 3 days after Martin was sacked.
