I know it’s a complete disaster if we go down.
But could there be a potential upside to a successful relegation battle? Galvanise the club, give the players some vital experience in getting results under pressure and maybe cement Schumacher in the managers seat?
Head into the summer with a bit of positivity and the possibility of bringing that momentum into the next season?
Obviously if the relegation battle is unsuccessful then all that goes out of the window but I think there are definitely upsides to our situation if , IF, we come through intact.

If anything it’s given the fans something to get behind the team for. It shouldn’t have come to this, but it has unfortunately.
Proof will be if we can kick on from this next season.

Always said I’d rather have something to play for. Mid table mediocrity isn’t cool, escaping relegation is😉

Low mid table may have covered Ricky's bullshit a little so at least him being gone is a plus.

The current British punt employed by the clueless people that run the club, thought we did not need a left-back in the last window - how do you think he will do next season What is going to change or be different this pre-season? For me nothing will change while we have the current setup at the club: we will start next season with an unbalanced squad, very little quality, virtually no competition for places at all, bizarrely short of numbers in every defensive position, we started our relegation season from the prem with a centre-forward as the only option at right-back and not much has changed since then - how many years are we just going to be happy with mediocrity, a chairman who refuses to look at any manager unless they are British, virtually cutting out all the quality options - and then there is all the bizarre things going on the background. We are meandering our way to tier 3 football unless something changes drastically with the way the club is ran from top to bottom

Just as the one did under MON? No. There’s no upside to being shit. I was thinking its similar to MONs first season. And to fair we did start his next season pretty well so the momentum was there. Went downhill after Christmas if memory serves. Just hoping Schu can be better than MON in the long term, he did such a good job at Plymouth

We had something like one win in the first 15 games. We started to move away from it in the last 3-4 games but we finished on 56 points, with 10 points taken in the last 4 games. So, we weren’t exactly home sailing. That season was equally as tight as this one for about 10-12 teams.

They were asked a question about it, at the meet the fans forum, and harped on about squad numbers or something like that. Got to get a leader in there who can bang down the door of the owners and tell them where they are going wrong, problem is the owners keep employing these British no-hopers who are just grateful for the job and do as their told - maybe SS can be different. I think we have had 24 new signings this season and the very first player we signed was a left-back from Sheff U who was well into his thirties hardly kicked a ball in 2 years and was sub standard in the games he did start for us, but on top of this he has been injured for large parts and we also knew in January he was out till at least early March. 23 signings later and nobody at the club thought one of those 23 signings should be a left-back - we are totally fecked as a club with that kind of mindset. A story came out about Rowett asking for some competition at LB for Pieters and he was, apparently told, if he wanted another LB he would have to sell Pieters first - now we can't know whether that story is true, but when you look at the evidence and what has gone on at the club - then you start to think there must be some truth to all these stories we here about going on in the background. It's surely not against the law to have 2 players competing for a position is it?

It might not be against the law but 2 people competing for the same spot is one extra wage at a time when we can't afford it. It's simple short-term economics just like we all exercise in our own lives. Perhaps we all would like 2 cars but some of us can only afford one. If the one we have is not performing for any reason then we make do and mend until such time as we can afford to buy another.

Not under him, but before he arrived. That was the mad Jones area, and he did lose the plot, causing Stoke to suffer and looking at hard times ahead. MON came in, and things improved, but not right away.

This team is a lot more unproven and has less depth on the bench hence why this feels a more dangerous situation to me.

We only got one point from the first three matches after lockdown (including losing 3-0 at Wigan) and it looked very touch and go. A lot like now.

Purgatory all day.
I don’t think people realise how devastating dropping to the third tier would be for the club, there’d be a shitload of job losses for a kick off and we’d be stuck there for years sifting through the aftermath and would be more likely to drop further than bounce back.

In week 40, we were two points above the drop and sitting in 21st: www.worldfootball.net/schedule/eng-championship-2019-2020-spieltag/40/In week 42, we were 4 points above and in 20th. I understand the idea of the team being “unproven”. However, both were still shite enough to drop. We could have very easily gone down under MON and a similar good run of form at the end of this season under SS will see us finish around 14th as well.

I was thinking similar when we slipped into the relegation places and Walters gave his rallying call. You can only say when the season finishes and we are safe but usually by April we have nothing to play for and the crowd and players are going through the motions and no one's interested in us. Sky will say at the end of their Championship round up "Oh and Stoke and... played out a goalless draw." Last home match was the most I've enjoyed a live match and some atmosphere since before relegation. Even the relegation season there was an atmosphere of inevitability and acceptance of our fate with no fight. Of course if we get relegated I'll wish for midtable mediocrity but at the moment I'm looking forward to the run in.

MON found a fair bit of quality that had been ignored under previous managements. Powell, to be more precise. His last year here was regretable, but when he came back into the team under MON, he became an unlikely leader in a way..

Point taken but Rowett was responsible for filling the garage with expensive junk in the first place. I don't have an explanation for the current situation other than we thought we could get by with what we already have.
