I think it’s best to just watch the game and not base things on statistics. That said, where on earth have the statistics come from to come to this conclusion?

We’ve got results with them and look the best when they play as a pair.
I really do think it’s been obvious.
They make daft mistakes which I think blinds people on it.

Clean sheets in about half the games they’ve played together? Everything suggests they’re a good partnership. |

I think that the Rose McNally partnership is ok. I don’t have anything against Wilmot either.
Some of our Midfield choices have contributed to defensive frailties, but saying that, our goals conceded see us around mid-table (we’ve only conceded two more than second placed Ipswich)…. Not saying it’s good, just ok.
Goals for, as we all know, is the problem. That stat sees us in the bottom 3 🙁

They are ok at this level and McNally has been improving - both have blunders in them on occasions - those occasions mainly being on match days  That said, you can't fault their commitment, they never go missing and both have had some great games for us, and they were building a bit of a partnership together - and let's face it we have been a bit short of numbers/quality when it comes to defenders to the left and right of them(that's if we have a defender and not a square peg) |

Was never happening. |

There's a difference between McNally and Rose under Neil and under Schumacher as well.
If we'd been playing under SS all season, this would not be the case.
I also think our inability to score hurts us more, though.

There are two distinct aspects to a statistic:
1 The measurement itself. So for example if the defence stats is based on goals conceded per minutes on the the pitch and the figures have been collected consistently and accurately the results are simply true - they are an accurate measure of what actually happened. If anyone thinks their personal subjective observations are better than the properly compiled objective stats they are an ego maniac with no understanding of selection bias.
2 How the stats are interpreted. So for example McNally and Rose might well have the second best stats for goal conceded per minutes together on the pitch but that doesn't mean they are the second best defensive partnership in the league - for example it might mean they just happened to be on the pitch when we played weaker teams.
Coach's use stats to help them understand what is happening on the pitch - they don't just take them at face value. People who just reject stats out of hand and rely on their own subjective judgement will be wrong more often than someone who understands the value and limits of statistics and use them to supplement their subjective judgements.
