I’ve always seen Gooch as someone who is a good professional with a good attitude, but not a lot of natural talent. Certainly not enough to make much of an impact at championship level. That said, I think his best position is an attacking right wing back in a back 5 formation. Not LB in a back 4 formation. He’s an okay crosser and has good athleticism, so should be focusing on running down the right and firing in a cross. He shouldn’t be playing in a defensive flat back 4 because the winger will rinse him 9 times out of 10 (I’m assuming that’s how he’s been played - seemed that way against us). Fair comments. Rinsed 9 in 10 is harsh though. He's better than that. You must be thinking of Hoever 😆 I might be only basing it off our game where he was up against Clarke - and to be fair, he was left isolated against him! So yeah I’m probably being a bit too harsh there.

Twice now he has been rinsed, admitted by 2 of the leagues best wingers in Clarke and James. But the backing off is scandalous. He did it 2nd half the other night despite the goal in the 1st. He has to be more aggressive in the tackle, especially outside the box.
The goal was another gift, he had half an hour to pick his spot.
You can tell Gooch is a winger come full back.
He's far from our worst player - but not to the standard required at full back if we are to ever progress.
He's more than adequate for next years inevitable league 1 campaign.

We aren't going down chief. Keep the faith 🙏 As for Gooch, he's a solid championship pro. Imagine being a brickie on a building site and you turn up for work and told you're fitting windows for the next few weeks. You ain't gonna be the best window fitter out of the gang are you. Technically he's sound but he'll always struggle with the intricacies of being an out and out full back as its a difficult position. Then add in some of that inverted bollox and it makes it worse. The recruitment team take the blame for this, Gooch is doing okay all things considered.

I don't have happy memories of Tymon , he was bang average and I was glad to see him go. What I wasn't glad of is us having no replacement lined up BUT as avergae as he was he was a left footed left back and would be a better option than Gooch. Shite recruitment or lack of. We should have had a replacement many moons before Tymon went. Left back has been a running sore for years now. Which makes the decision to not name Mccarron in the squad of 25 even more ludicrous

He was definately the catalyst. Better in a 5 as it gives him more freedom.

We've had at least half a dozen non-triers over the past few years, and yet Gooch is being picked on ?... I like his attitude, he always gives 100%, covers a lot of yards, very positive with possession, good at switching play - in case none of you noticed he played several pinpoint 40 yard crossfield passes to Million against Leeds. Granted he's not Kyle Walker, but we are a mediocre championship club and he's good enough to hold his own. Right, who are you all going to slag off next ? Just back... buzzing and totally vindicated. The post above followed a page and a half of criticism from all the usual know-it-alls. I hope your all embarrassed this eve...

Well Norwich Sunderland and now Leeds are just three matches I can recall where he backs off and backs off allowing the winger to shoot centre or pass . Three goals that would have been avoided with a proper full back who gets close to his man . Hoping Enda is back soon if only for a few games before he breaks down again Thought after today? Just share like no myther
