Oh no. I love the mercurial, maverick individuals from the 70s. A sort of latter day Corinthians, live for the day, devil may care attitude and play with a match winning swagger. RIP Stan.

I think Waddo tried to sign him. The joke was he wouldn’t sign because we didn’t have a dog track in Stoke. A proper player, a maverick and Jack the lad that everyone could relate to.

For anyone growing up in the 1970s there were four players with an outstanding individual talent but also a bit of a playboy reputation (maverick if you prefer. Stan was one of these alongside Alan Hudson, Tony Currie and Frank Worthington. R.I.P. Stan and thanks for the memories 😢

My only real memory of Stan Bowles was my Mum confiscating the paper off me as was a pic of him hugging a topless bird in it and she thought I was studying it too much.

A wonderful footballer and character who only represented England 5 times. On that basis he ranks in the same category as Carlton f*****g Palmer.

Stan Bowles alongside our own Gerry Francis was an integral part of the QPR team that almost took the league title in 75-76. QPR went into last game of season top against second place Liverpool but lost 3-1 to give dippers the title. They’ve never got anywhere near that since. Remember going to QPR game away early in that season the ref added time until Webb scored an injury time winner to win 3-2. RIP Legend.
