Its not hard to fathom, despite a decent shot on him Baker is a 3 touch slow it down player - the antithesis of what SS is looking for. Cundle is a one-touch pass and move player who has been parchuted into a team of mostly cack and its taking a while to click. Cundle Bae and Burger are SS's core but while our defence continue to be shite and results go against us its hard to get the others to fit, when we are desperate to take some pressure off. Absolutely spot on.

His best game since coming back into the picture for sure, but only because he started to do the dirty work in midfield for a change.
Loads more to go on that front, as you can tell it doesn't come naturally with him but it's a start and hopefully he's getting it.

He did enough in terms of the dirty work and set pieces to retain his place in the side for Saturday. If he can put together application of the dirty work and his undoubted quality on the ball then he can be a big player for us.

Was best player on pitch tonight. Clearly up for it, which isn’t always the case. He needs to play like that every game. No he wasn't 😂

Let's see if he can manage to perform consistently before we proclaim the new Messiah
He had a decent game last night but with Baker it's usually 1 stellar performance followed by 3 invisible performances

He looked rejuvenated last night, got himself about the pitch and looked to get behind the ball when QPR had it. Not the toughest tackler and his shooting was surprisingly off. But even so he applied himself to the task, along with Burger he was the mainstay of our midfield.

I’m amazed no one has mentioned that he ran like a mad man to close down, and successfully block, a really dangerous shot from QPR last night. I know it’s the bare minimum we should expect but it’s honestly the first time I’ve seen a player come from nowhere to block a shot for ages.

No, it happens a lot, its just the first time you have ever seen Baker do it

It seems he’s the only player who can take a decent corner . That and his free kick prowess AND he can take a penalty. That’s why he’s been reinstated I think

Early in game as well so it set the standards for others to follow

If he could speed up his passing, forward preferably, that would certainly help, his first time left footed pass to Gooch late in the game was great vision & execution.

In my humble opinion, Baker should start every game, at least he chases down and tracks back, yeah he misplaces easy passes sometimes but he works his bollocks off to get the ball back and make up for a bad pass. I would like to see him have a run of games to see if he can get back to his best.

Not disagreeing, he certainly stepped up the other night - but those qualities were definitely lacking in his previous stint in the team. One swallow does not a summer make...

He scores goals. He delivers the best dead balls in the team. He can take free kicks and penalties.
If he doesn't tackle when he should or doesn't track back as well as he could, that shouldn't matter if you've got enough players who do that to complement his qualities.
+ if all he does is take set pieces, shoots on target and scores the odd goal, even without the tracking back, he's likely to be doing a damn site more than most of his teammates.

Best we’ve looked all season has been with a midfield of Burger, Baker, and Bae. If fit and available those three should start every match for the rest of the season.

I'm a bit confused by all the Baker negativity to be honest, he played well against Ipswich, did ok at Rotherham and scored a wonder goal, wasn't great against Birmingham and was subbed, then back in on Wednesday and played very well?
2 wins, 1 draw, 1 defeat, 3 clean sheets and he's looked fairly solid on the back of him coming back from a long layout..........

They all just offer something different. It’s no surprise that it’s the best we’ve looked, as it’s also the most balanced. Burger can drop deep to collect and he can defend. Baker can take set pieces and score goals. Bae has energy and tried to make things happen.
