Bloody hell, that was sudden. He was presenting Pick of the Pops on Radio 2 last Saturday (possibly not live), so there was no indication of Ill health. Not my cup of tea but certainly gave millions pleasure as a radio broadcaster. RIP.

Always reminds me of midweek away games on the official coaches late 90s early 2000s. Used to set off to whichever godforsaken part of the country we were traipsing to in League One and invariably the coach driver would start the journey with his show on the radio.
RIP.

RIP, as others have said, cant believe he has gone and didnt seem 69 Required listening for offices and pot banks in the 1980s with his Radio Show and characters Mr Spoons, Gervaise the Hairdesser, Arnie, Mr Angry, The Old Woman Seamlessly moved from R1 and R2 and felt like part of the cultural furniture Basically the same format for 30 years but to me didnt feel dated
RIP Steve

Wow, that's a real shock. Only 69 as well.
I did like his show at one time but felt it just got repetitive. I did like his TOTP2 progs as well.
RIP Steve.

Piled weight on didn't he
Was always a thin fella when I remember him on TOTP, ok many do in later years but just read that reached over 18 stone at one time.
Must have been close to doubling his weight

I worked in a fitters shop from age 15-17 [firstly during School hols, then full time] and Steve Wright on the radio, is one of the things I remember most fondly.
Some proper madcap laughs on his show. I remembered all the words to Yeoviltronic's "Don't Touch It" and I was made to recite it in the canteen pretty often 😄
RIP.
