He didn’t translate to telly v well. Think he had a series or two on BBC and bombed. Can’t be arsed to google it.

Very sad news and a shock. What a show he had in 80s , the array of characters and ensemble stuff and just seemed a thoroughly nice guy to boot. Misterrr Spoons !!! RIP Steve

His show wasn't quite my thing, I'm probably a bit too cool for his daft brand of 'high jinx' but RIP Steve, you were certainly a part of my life.

There really are faces made for radio aren’t there. Sure that complete bellend Chris Moyles tried it once and went down like a fart in a lift. Evans went the other way, kind of

RIP Wrighty
I’m genuinely sad. I have listened to him all my life. He was and will always be the greatest DJ for me.
I remember listening in the lorry years ago there was an Ask Elvis that I was laughing at so much that I had to pull over. Wonderfully entertaining. Always a good mix of music as well.

Whenever I hear a foreign news story involving someone with an impossible name in an improbable event I still shout
"Made up name!!!"
It was good but it wasn't as good as Mark'n'Lard.

He seemed quite uncomfortable on TOTP and panel shows, yep Tommy Vance at the same time I thought should have got a lot more TV as came over really well apart from the time they allowed Roger Daltrey to introduce The Village People with him on live TV

Shocked to hear this news. I first tuned into Steve sometime in the early 80s. Gloria Hunniford was on Radio 2 at the time! I think I even saw him at a Radio 1 Roadshow in Devon later on in the 80s. A great radio talent who will be missed by many.
RIP Steve.

Steve Wright's show was ace. Good laugh. Part of the enjoyment was it was on at 3.00, so we knew it was coming round to hometime when it started. Mick Jagger was a pisser on it.

Cheered me up many an afternoon after flogging it up and down the M4 corridor to soulless IT companies during the 90s - knew I was on the way home when he was on……
RIP fellah

RIP, he hadn't looked healthy for quite a while now.
He wasn't my cup of tea with his singing (badly) over songs and annoying features like jockin no g being advertised on different shows all week.

More than one Shirley? And isn’t that Andy Peebles going un-named in the pic? Great journalism.

RIP Steve Wright.
Never a huge fan of his radio 2 show (too young when he was on radio 1) but loved his jingles!
A radio pioneer for sure and more importantly a top man by all accounts.

Any whispers on what got him? I was no fan, but can certainly respect the impact he had on multiple generations with his broadcasting. I was initially pleased when he was replaced by Scott Mills but within a month was actually missing Steve Wright. Anyway, his brother is apparently some health & lifestyle guru, and he’s said it was the culmination of years of not looking after himself and ignoring multiple lifestyle warning signs. As a man in my early 50’s that knows he needs to start looking after himself but can’t be arsed / not sure where to begin it is a death that has resonated with me.
