I can’t lie but this has shook me, absolutely gutted that one of our old skippers has passed away at such a young age…truly upsetting 😢🔴⚪️ Same. Remember him very vividly. He did well for us and seemed to be a genuinely nice guy. Terrible, terrible news.

Very sad news indeed. I’d not been watching Stoke long when Peter was in the side and have to say he was a very good player at that level and certainly never let us down. RIP Peter at such a young age. These ones hit me the most

Such a shame, 49 is absolutely no age at all. One thing I remember about him is how well turned out he was - like he respected playing for Stoke. Kit was always worn properly and seemed an excellent pro. A calming presence alongside hard man Shtaniuk. RIP Peter Handyside. You are so right. I met him once in the Waddington Suite. He just oozed class. No headphones, sliders and attitude of many footballers today. An absolute gentleman. Rest in peace Peter

Just read his daughter suffered leukaemia in 2013 too. Just terrible when you think of the moaning some of us do day to day

I liked Peter Handyside. Him and Shtaniuk were just about perfect for what we needed at that moment in time. Captained a team that could get last minute equalisers when they really needed them and win the big games they absolutely had to win.

What a shock. I held my 50th at Tollgate hotel in 2001 Peter was staying there at the time and he came in for a drink. Nice fella. Very sad

Really think there should be something to commemorate him permanently at the club. I think he merits that.
It’s rare I’m made genuinely upset at the death of someone I’ve never met in person, but this has done that.

Great memories of that day in Cardiff. Peter was captain fantastic.
Does anyone know the circumstances of this news?
