End of an era - watched a couple of episodes on Gold only last night - find it somewhat depressing that youngsters aren't generally aware of the context of Dad's Army and that over 1200 Home Guard were killed in the defence of the country during it's darkest hours........

Very saddened to hear this. Worth watching a few episodes and the film for a happy remembrance. 🎶 whistle while you work, Hitler is a twerp, he’s half barmy so’s his army…..🎶

I remember him on a chat show in Ireland and he lived in Galway and was great friends with Rick Wakeman
One of my fave episodes is when they threw the fish supper for his signing up but he kept quiet that he'd been rejected as liked fish and chips

Crumbs, you know you are getting old when Private Pike turns up his toes 😞 Was it Jasper Cartot did the ..sketch Is impossible to watch it with family and friends without someone saying ..guess who died first and who is still alive etc? Don't think my Mum ever made it through an episode without mentioning James Beck dying early

RIP Pikey lad.
Dad's Army was a big part of our Friday nights when we were young.
My Old Man was a bit of a Private Pike. After leaving school he was a Bank Clerk during the day, but was a Home Guard member during his spare time.
Unlike Pikey though Dad was accepted by the Army and served in Normandy in 1944.

So sorry to hear this news. I'm old enough to have watched Dad's Army as the original episodes were transmitted in the 1970s and have loved and watched them ever since. The character of Pike - not yet 20, naive, childish and overprotected by his mother - was such a wonderful addition to the cast you can't imagine Dad's Army without him.
Pike: By the time we finish supper, it's always so late, you never leave our house until after I've gone to bed and then you're back early for breakfast before I'm awake. But what I can't understand is that I never hear you leave at night and I never hear you come back in. Wilson: Well I let myself in and out very quietly. Pike: You don't do anything else very quietly!
RIP Ian and thanks for the memories.

I shouldn’t really like dads army at 43 years old, most of my mates think it’s rubbish but I love it. Sometimes, when you’re bored, it really does put a smile on my face

Sometimes, when you’re bored, it really does put a smile on my face Episodes like where they reveal Private Godfrey as a conscientious objector a beautifully crafted in terms of writing, acting and delivery. Good comedy is good comedy, it doesn't age. I've had to grow up to appreciate that. Everything new isn't automatically better.
