Doesn’t help that when they did get the ball back on to the pitch quickly whilst the ball was in the crowd, Some knob thought it would be funny to throw the ball on the pitch whilst the game was in play

I didn't understand what was going on. There are supposed to be ball waiting on the touchline to be picked up but they seemed to be waiting for the ball to be retrieved.
Mind you the system didn't work near the end when the ball went into the crowd in front of us. It wasn't returned immediately so they picked up a ball to restart the game. After a minute some smart person in the crowd decided to throw it back to a ball boy but it went sailing over his head onto the pitch just as the ball was cleared into the same area. At first Wilmot went for the wrong ball before he realised there were two on the pitch. The ball boy was very annoyed with the spectator

Is it the job of the young kids to keep the ball in play or are the balls there for the players to pick up and use rather than wait for the ball to return? The ball boys don't keep the balls with them, just return them to the stands.
For ne yesterday it was their players taking the mick time-wasting rather than any major issues with the kids. Ruddy followed a ball all the way to the sideline rather than pick up the one he passed. He probably shouted the ball boy to pass it to him if it was thrown to him in error

Surely the players know the balls are there? Been there all season and they have been using it well ball goes out they pick up the nearest one then ball boy puts the retrieved ball back on its cone.. no idea what was going on yesterday!!!

Transfer window’s still open…. maybe we can get that one from Spurs who helped them score under Mourinho

I know it’s a contentious issue complaining about the ball boys/girls so moving away from that….Wouldn’t it be common sense for any club to use ball boys / girls from the clubs academy system? Young players who might have a bit more awareness of the match going on. For example knowing when to slow down / speed up play and a basic understanding of where the ball needs to be returned to. I don’t understand why our ball boys/girls aren’t trained to have a ball in their hands ready to get the play moving when we are chasing a game. It might not seem much but for me the attention to detail that is still lacking at the club sometimes.

All they need to do is have the ball boys sit by the spare balls on the tees by the side of the pitch. That way when the ball goes out of play near them they just pick the tee'd up ball and throw it to the player. THEN they can run off and retrieve the other ball and return it to the tee ready for the next time. That way all the running around and fumbling the ball and falling over and comedy throwing by spectators takes place while the ball is back in play and not while the player is standing twiddling his thumbs waiting to take the throw in. It's not bloody rocket science. Our ball boys yesterday were miles away from the spare balls. Only Stoke could balls up the ball boy/multiball system.

Put it on the Clubs feedback that they ask for after each home match.

The ref was letting him get away with loads yesterday, he should have gripped that. The ref was quick enough to do this to Iverson at Rotherham last week!

Mate Ruddy was time wasting on their very first goalkick in the 2nd minute. The ref was abysmal. Did he even talk to him at any point? Burger was in the refs ear about it at every goalkick and still he did nothing.

Wasn't really moaning about the ball boys, but the system of a ball in each quadrant was missing. They were pretty useless though.

I certainly wouldn’t blame the kiddies. I have no doubt that if they were trained properly they would do what is required. So in a game like yesterday where we are chasing the game they would be given be given a signal to implement a well rehearsed plan to get the ball back into play ASAP. It’s not difficult. Sorry for the cliche, but marginal gains…

I thought multihull had been banned. I was surprised to see us using it in the last couple of games. Part of maintaining a high tempo, I suppose.

The ball retrievers (to cater for ball boys/girls) sit on them little plastic stools pitchside with their hoods draped over their heads & they look really disinterested when the ball go's out of play near them, they kind of look at the next one along like they'll grab it for them!
Anyone remember the days at the Victoria Ground where the ball boys/girls would run out with their 'Dale Sports' bibs on to the centre circle, turn and wave to the crowd and then sprint off and run to their area of the perimeter track! They were clearly more disciplined & coil spring like back in the day 😉🤣

There's no reason why we can't train our ball boys and girls to the same standard of those at Wimbledon. Now they know what they're doing.
By Wimbledon I mean the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, not Wimbledon FC.
