I'd have him over laurent and Pearson that's for sure. Infact I think Baker and burger would work very well together. A baker burger! Sounds like something you get at McDonald’s?

I think he is off in January. But it seems Schumacher had a thing for players that shoot from distance at Plymouth, and it had me immediately thinking about how Baker is one of the best we have at that. Unfortunately, he isn’t so adept at controlling, passing, or tackling which makes him a passenger in most games.

Baker is a completely different player to Pearson, I wouldn't pick him in a defensive role, if he plays it's up the other end of the pitch to where Pearson would be.
With a manager who plays ATTACKING football we won't need anyone protecting the back 4 and passing sideways. That’ll end well. It’s pretty rare that a side is successful without at least one defensive midfielder in there.

To be honest, other than the goals (and yes i know thats important) he didnt do a lot if you ask me. Even under MON he was a passenger for most games If we are going to play with one attacking midfielder that would be Junho for me Juno is nowwhere near ready for me Why would he want or need to be ready for you?

If you have two box to box midfielders you don't need someone sitting. We will hopefully now be dominating the ball and playing front foot football. Pearson is not needed, and even when he's played this season he's been a massive disappointment. Hopefully Neil gets a new job before January and comes in for him and Johnson.

There's a skillset and role that puts midfielders in the position to nip out dangerous passes, block space or threaten a solid tackle. If you're doing 4 at the back you need 1-2 CMs capable of it and what I remember of Baker the other team just stroll past him. EDIT: I'm not arguing against having 2 box to box ones, just saying you can make people play box-to-box but their weaknesses could suck for us.

His goals under MON masked what are real deficiencies in his game, his general all round play is pretty poor for a central midfielder in terms of getting about and stuck in.
I’m not sure how much the knee was affecting him under Neil but he was a passenger when the goals dried up.
Maybe Schumacher can more out of him but it’s a big if for me.

Despite his flaws and perceived weaknesses, he’s still my favourite Stoke player.
A lot on here are like jackels baying for blood (Baker’s blood) for no real good reason except having a few quiet games and being (rightly) pissed off with the management of the day.
No, he isn’t going anywhere and I forecast he’ll become a key components in Schumaker’s new rejigged Stoke.

He simply can’t be any worse than Johnson. I know Bae has his supporters on here, but let’s be honest, he’s done absolutely nothing yet. I’d have him straight back in playing as an attacking midfielder just behind the striker. Tbf thought mick how many times has bae played in his position. He seemed to have no direction under neil maybe this new guy can put a arm round him and play him in a positive role in a positive system

It can't easy for the lad..learning English and coming into one of if not the most competitive league possible..and as you mentioned mostly used in a position he isn't used to. The thing that surprised me most about him is he uses his body really well, he ain't the biggest but knows how to use his body. He is always positive and want to go forward. I don't think we've even seen anywhere near his best yet.

To me Baker is another of a list of players who start well but very soon degenerate to something less than acceptable. This seems to happen so often - why?
Is it the excitement and adrenalin of a new start, need to impress the manager whose just signed them, they then deflate to "the day job"? Or do they have any initiative and enterprise drilled out of them by having to conform with the manager's view of what is expected by each part of his system?
There seems to be a woeful lack of players who come to Stoke and actually get better. I do remember WBA fans berating Odemwingie and he turned out be great for us, but hard to think of any more. Arguably Stoke turned round Arnie's career.
MON's tenure was best when he first arrived and he just picked players in their best position znd let them get on with it. But after that it was downhill.
Hopefully SS has got the Scouse nous to get the best out of the players including Baker.
PS The greatest performance I ever saw by an opposing player in any Stoke match (and I saw Pele, Best, etc.) was by a player called Baker. Back in the 60s at Meadow Lane we played Forest (the City ground was shut due to a fire) and Stoke were much the better team, but Forest had Joe Baker, who was absolutely brilliant that day. Result was 3- 3.

Other than shooting does he? If he's up for it got to be worth a look for his goals (& maybe his set pieces but they went to shit too) But I think Junho is better at everything else attacking wise If he's not up for it he can fuck off (same goes for anyone else) but clean slate time, interested to see if he can be an asset again Why would he need to play as a 10? He’s never really operated there for us. His best form was with Allen next to him. I’d like to think that he could find that again alongside Pearson. Have to wait for a bit for that Key with Baker is him being up for it, believing in the manager and the manager believing in him Up to him in the first instance to show in training Assuming he hasn't knocked on Steve's door already asking for a move

No goals or assists that I can remember. He was very much on the periphery of things on Sunday at West Brom. I want him to do well but there’s not a great deal of evidence to say he will so far. Early days though for him like you say. Out of all the new players, he’s the one who perhaps will need the most time to settle in.

Baker needs selling to bring in players that SS can rely on, so probably 50% of the team need to eventually leave.

The midfield unless an overnight miracle takes place is an absolute car crash.. I think somehow he needs 2/3 midfielders in January to make it work the way he wants it to.. Pearson & Burger for me, just don't move the ball quick enough. Is that about them or how they've been instructed to play? We should soon know the answer.

Bursting forward on the counter and getting a shot off. As a midfielder the game completely passes him by. Schuey will give them all a clean slate so we'll see but I suspect he may leave in Jan. Clean slate but leaving in a fortnight? Don't make sense!

Pretty sure that should apply to the lot of them. Clean slate let Schu make his mind up about them and don’t be all put out when and if his thoughts don’t align with our own. I’ll take a fresh look at any player he selects in his system even Mmaee.
