I don't think it can ever be overstated that losing the likes of Whelen & SJW from our dressing room was the beginning of the end of our glory days & perhaps more so the SCFC as we knew & loved it!

Whelan always struck a chord with me and his comments in that link prove that he's not changed a bit. Must admit when considering new candidates, the first thing I thought was "who is the meanest bastard in the pile?"
Get a leader in here, take charge - press on. If they won't buy in - get rid.

Was at Bristol rovers for a couple of years with Joey Barton, until recently.
An interesting couple of characters for a league one side .

The Club need a strong personality like Glen on the coaching staff.. hopefully whoever is responsible for appointing staff can see this obvious fact and appoint him .. right away!

Not the greatest of footballers but vastly improved under Hughes.
That said he never hid even when things were bad and apparently didn’t take any shit from lazy people on the training ground.
Had his fair share of bad spells but would embarrass these fools we have now.

Stoke city...the club that let Robert Huth go to Leicester because he was surplus to requirements...he won the premier League at Leicester!
Stoke city...the club that let Glenn Whelan go to Aston villa because he was surplus to requirements...he won promotion to the premier League at villa !
Nobody judges a player like Stoke city.
If carlsberg did clusterfxcks ....

Along with Shawcross and Fuller, probably one of the best value for money players in our recent history.
Great Club player who always gave 100% for the shirt.

Didn’t really ‘let rip’ did he? Just said a few players are going to need a kick in the arse.

Had his fair share of bad spells but would embarrass these fools we have now. Our team back then wasn’t 11 individuals it was 1 team of varying abilities Some of our very best performances were teams with a mixture of flair and talent alongside players who were reliable, steady and always gave 100% Currently we are working with 18 or so individuals, trying to put themselves in the spotlight from game to game- it isn’t working and needs addressing

Had his fair share of bad spells but would embarrass these fools we have now. I actually think he was a decent player, and he’d played more as an attacking midfielder before we signed him. Pulis converted him to the deep anchor role - I think because he clearly wasn’t good enough technically to play further forward in the Prem, and he was the right personality. If he’d stayed in the championship I think he’d have had a lot more goals to his name. Saying that, one of the most disgraceful things I’ve seen was when he was caught on camera basically being exasperated (saying Jesus, what the fuck’) after Julien N’goy missed a chance against someone - he must have been 17,18 at the time. All those ideas I had that he was a good leader went out the window - a really pathetic way to behave as a senior player - and you can imagine what he’d have been like behind closed doors. So yeah, not had much time for him since then.

What he is saying regarding the dressing room is similar to when Hughes was sacked and we eventually had to make do with Lambert. The new manager will have similar amount of time but hopefully a full transfer window to ship out the wasters and get some players who will fight for the club.

It was right they moved on, we just didn't replace them with good, quality players. If Whelan's replacement was a good premier league player, that would have kept us up.
