Just out of interest, I'm curious to know if his success has united the city or is it just a Stoke City thing and the Vale fans aren't interested?

For those who follow boxing really closely whose a realistic next opponent if he fought at the Bet365, I'm guessing they'll want him to defend his British title at least once before going straight into a world title fight? For perspective Bentley was ranked 9th in the world in the WBO listings, Hamzah Sheeraz is European champion and 6th in the rankings..... I think FW wants the ticket receipts and spectacle of an outdoor fight at Bet365, but I doubt it will be a world title. I think he will be looking at a "homecoming" in Spring with a British title defence. If he still holds the belt maybe an autumn fight could be on the cards as a title tilt.

It’s a huge leap from National to world champ. Who knows if he’ll make it. I do know that he’ll leave everything in the ring and in the gym to make it happen though.

Sheeraz looks the real deal when I've seen him (albeit only highlights of a couple of fights).............

Not even a mention on BBC boxing page! 😕 It was mentioned in one sentence at the end of an extensive report on the Hannah Rankin - Ema Kozin fight which was way down the card. Go figure as the yanks say.

Just out of interest, I'm curious to know if his success has united the city or is it just a Stoke City thing and the Vale fans aren't interested? I’ve a few non-Stoke fan friends who’ve been following Heaney since the earlier days, none of them Vale though. I’d imagine the Vale fans would support the other guy given that their priorities are 1-Stoke losing and 2-Vale winning. I wonder if being a season ticket holder at Stoke would give me a better chance of getting a ticket when he hopefully ends up here? Only because I’m in a wheelchair and there’s not many spaces.

Richie Woodhall must be chair of the Bentley fan club.......... I don't know anything about Bentley prior to last night but I must admit I had the scorecards pretty much the same as Woodhall. 116-113 - thought Heaney won it by about 2 rounds.

Bunce had it bang on, Heaney scored with disruption punches and stopped Bentley every time he set himself. It was a brilliant tactic by Steve Woodvine, executed brilliantly by Nathan.

Warren looks to be a bit shy about setting up Nathan for a world title shot. So as others have suggested a defence at home is likely. However, could the 40 year old Erislandy Lara, WBA Middleweight champ, be a realistic match up?

a gritty performance from NH.. and finally something for all of S-o-T to feel good about.. he'll need a couple of follow up fights before trying to come state-side.. fighting here is on a much higher level. That said if he does set up a fight at Brit I may fly over just for the atmosphere!

Is one thing bringing a thousand fans to Manchester though and another defending what is only a British title in a football stadium, however. Would it be that big a pull, personally don't think so as not a very big name in the World of boxing in general although of course would bring the football brigade in which would be a good few thousand ?

As mentioned in another post , outside of Stoke he's not a big name in reality. Certainly be a crowd puller locally of course ..very few top top fighters pull in football crowds I sent a message last night to a chap I know, Kevin in York who has written a boxing quiz book, his answer was...is he the Stoke lad? This is a fella who knows a great deal about boxing although gone a bit cool on the current scene

Not many do that really that I can see although I don’t follow boxing as an avid fan so much. I reckon they would probably close off the Boothen End and basically half that end and have the boxers coming through the tunnel. With the half a pitch and half a ground you’d still probably get 20k

A home coming fight at the ground against a steady opponent for a defence is a must before anything else. Give the lad his pay day and his place in history, and give the city something to get behind.
Key this will be pricing, you can’t be charging £80+ for tickets in the stands. People just won’t bother. £20 for adults and £5 for kids and absolutely pack the place.
Charge what you want ring side and in the boxes, but the stands need to be as cheap as possible. It would be great to have this on, with hopefully a new fan zone all tied in with all the local boxing gyms in the area. Make a day/weekend of it.
But again, pricing is absolutely key. Make it a cheap enough, must see event and it will be something really special.
Only half sell the tickets and it could lose the packed house feeling.
