Unfortunately he looks completely shot. He looks devoid of confidence in front of goal and is very inconsistent with his hold up play. I can see why AN is using him - a mobile(ish) striker to help facilitate a higher press - but the last couple of years suggests that Gayle is entering the twilight of his career. A new striker must be one of our priorities in January. Myself and many others have been banging on about this for at least a couple of years and it is falling on deaf ears. There must be plenty of decent strikers in S.America for instance so why are we so tardy at getting a decent striker in?

Of course it's that easy which is why every other club has already signed a prolific South American striker.

If there were plenty of decent strikers in S.America or elsewhere then wouldn't everyone sign one? How many decent strikers are there in the championship this season? There are only 5 players (Not all Strikers) that are on track to score 20 goals or more this season: Szmodics, Armstrong, Clarke, Whittaker and Rowe. Of those 5 only Armstrong has previously scored 20 in a season.

Perhaps we should have spent a fortune on Ross Stewart who I think has played roughly 3 minutes of football this season or Ellis Simms and his couple of goals.
We all know we need a strong goalscorer to lead the line and we have the money to buy one but it important we get the right player and not just splash out on who is available.
Until then Gayle is the best we have when Mmaee is injured.

He returns to the side ...
And we immediately stop scoring and winning games.

He returns to the side ... And we immediately stop scoring and winning games. What does he do in training. Because it NEVER shows in games. Should never start again. And I’ve said that before

I don't know what Wesley did to lose his place to Gayle , at least it looks like sumat might happen when he's on the pitch , he creates a bit of havoc at least .

Gayle wasn't the reason they were so much better than us Even staying onside would be a start….. Any striker would be on a hiding to nothing in the shambles of a team Our goals scored column shows that. Absolutely no creativity. Struggling to remember the last time I saw a performance as bad as Pearson today

We desperately need a strong goalscorer to lead the line. a strong goal scorer would make no difference imo. what we desperately need is creativity in the midfield.

Doesn’t have pace, doesn’t have height, doesn’t have strength, doesn’t get his toe on the end of things, just what is he getting picked for?
But like Prestwich says, he doesn’t pick himself. We’ve bought two forwards, got a couple of young lads breaking through, yet AN picks a player who will probably retire at the end of the season having earned a big fat wage for doing next to sod all.

Offers less than nothing. Imagine being a forward and seeing him starting before you?
Terminate his contract and let’s all move on.

Gayle wasn't the reason they were so much better than us Even staying onside would be a start….. It would be nice if he could win a header, stay onside, pass, tackle, shoot, run, moving towards the ball instead of way from it. Incompetence and embarrassing all over.

As anonymous to poor as he was today given Blackburn clear lack of height surely it was obvious that Wes should have started

In the team because he sets the teams defensive press fairly well. Last season he connected well and linked the rest of the team, now he doesn't and he offers no goal that. So, when you are behind he literally offers nothing and in the first half it looked like we were playing with 10 men.
Instantly offered more threat with Mmaee on the pitch.
Neil needs to find a way to be able to play with Lowe / Wesley instead whilst maintaining a high press.

I knew we wouldn’t score as soon as I saw the team sheet. Gayle is hopeless, Johnson seems to be undroppable despite also being hopeless, and Leris is a defensive forward who seems to be in the side to cover for his full backs defensive deficiencies. Add that all up and you have the reason why we’ve scored 16 times in 17 games. It’s simply not good enough.
