Perhaps I get you now, But you are linking the culture to a particular identifiable group. Prestwich's clear answer, a different position from yours, seeems to show how difficult some aspects/ interpretations of racism are I didn't take that from Prestwich's answer, maybe I read it wrong. It's the Arab culture I don't like, how is that different from someone that doesn't like the Traveller culture? I think we've taken it as far as we can now Ely

Wasn't trying to make a point about anything you're like mate, just that I think how people think can change with time. For ages people have used skin colour to decide who's different, but sometimes people pick things like religion or accent. I just think we could see it become less important for people in future and then you'd see fewer issues. That's how it was going until the machine decided we need to keep reminding everyone that all white people are inherently racist and other races can't be racist towards white people. Just more of the keep them fighting and arguing. I don’t like the word racist as it’s way too specific I much prefer the word prejudice as I thinks it covers everything including racism in all its form and isn’t as specific. Any form of prejudice is wrong whether it’s colour, religion, gender, sexuality, disability. For me is any form of prejudice worse than the other for me no.

Yoos can't even say I just take people as they come regardless of colour nowadays. The baiters have that down with silence is violence and you're defo a racist if you say stuff like that. Its a recurring phrase but the demand for racism has outstripped the supply. Too many organisations depend on it for their very existence. So they have every reason to keep pushing and pushing every angle. Of course it exists and always will but this country in particular was on a very good path. Yet you'll not stop the guardian producing articles about the lack of footpath walks in ethnic areas to make non sensical claims of intended racism. Meaning the bloody countryside of course has the majority of countryside footpaths 😆 shock horror. I'm still waiting for the guardians article about lack of internet, bus, medical and school services in rural areas that I guess predominantly white people suffer. I genuinely don't care if someone accuses my attitude of coming across as racist anymore. Water off a ducks back. The term is close to actually losing its meaning. And that's not a good thing because it gives fuel to the actual genuine to the core racists, which could see it rise again. And the irony is that will please some of the organisations that rely on it so they can justify their grants and existence. Madness it is.

Has that ever happened to you irl? I've never seen it and nor have the mates I asked. I think social media really fucks with things. A few times actually. Not to the point of a serious fall out but I've made the comment in certain circles and received the oooooh you can't say that, you're denying the lived experience of ethnic people blah blah. To be fair I socialise mostly around Chorlton in Manchester which is as "right on Liberal" anti Conservative as you can get. I wouldn't dare admit to having voted tory a few times in my career around here. You'd get lynched 😆 Won't be voting for them this time however cos they ain't actually a party of fiscal responsibility and small government any longer. No idea what they are nowadays and I don't think they do either. I'll be spoiling my ballot. Screw em all.

Gammon is actually a very racist term. Nobody says so though funnily enough. Wonder why. What ethnicity is gammon? 😂 Well I've been lead to believe it represents middle aged overweight white brexit voters with shaved and or bald heeds. Defo stereotypical. I mean I'm bald with a shaved heed, probably a stone above my fighting weight yet I voted remain. To be fair its quite a good insult and I love bacon too 😊

Kind of like calling someone a Karen (which is one of my favorite insults).

It's sometimes about 'risk' rather than purposely being racist in the manner of dislike of people from particular ethnic background.
Whilst there is most definitely a risk to renting to any person there can also be more risk to general wear damage to properties by certain ethnicities. I have met the most lovely, intelligent people who unfortunately just don't treat the homes in a acceptable manner. I also feel part of reason is how they have lived in their home country and the general standard of living.
As said at starting renting to anyone is a risk and feel landlords are selective in a way to protect the properties rather than being openly racist. Difficult to separate I know.

It pretty much is, yeah 😄 I'd never thought about ethnicity in relation to gammon-ness but when you think about it the whole idea is based around the high blood pressure red-faced fury (the gammon colour) of the average low-watt bulb who gets apoplectic about foreigners, the EU, migrants, lawyers, small boats, wokery, virtue-signalling, etc etc so that vein-bursting righteous indignation can only really manifest itself properly in pale-skinned types. Who knew 'gammon' was racist 🤣

I get confused nowadays. I just believe in kindness and tolerance. Within reason. Racism is directed against an ethnic group. The word “race” in itself is kind of racist but stays in common use. (It’s racist because it was made up and theorized that the “black race” was “scientifically” inferior to justify slavery. There is one race, human. There are many ethnicities). I suppose they don’t change “racism” because ethnicism just doesn’t roll off the tongue the same way. It is clusterfuck, I agree. A lot of time is spent analyzing the etymology of words (rightly or wrongly) and many common phrases etc do have some pretty crappy origins. Language evolves I suppose. It’s annoying and hard to keep up.

Oh, I mean, age related differences in protein function happen. It sucks. It’s the reason we die. I just loved the term you coined to phrase it. Having had papers that are then picked up by news channels, it’s amazing what media will go with. I find it infuriating at times because they want to sell papers, where as I just want to write science (in a very boring way 😂). In your link though: “The "male menopause" (sometimes called the andropause) is an unhelpful term sometimes used in the media. This label is misleading because it suggests the symptoms are the result of a sudden drop in testosterone in middle age, similar to what occurs in the female menopause. This is not true.”
