You say it's too late, I myself thought we looked threatening towards the last 20 mimutes so why disrupt any momentum we were making. It didn't come off, big whoosh, onto the next one I thought that we were crying out for some fresh legs after chasing the ball around for most of the game. Throwing on a couple of attacking players at 1-0 down with 15/20 minutes to go might have given us some impetus and energy. I think everyone can say that waiting until the 88th minute with the game already lost to throw some substitutes into the mix was utterly bizarre management. The only change I'd have made is Gayle for Lowe myself. I'd like to rematch the game but I thought we looked like we could pull something back in the final 20. I mean, if Lowe had stuck his two chances away we wouldn't even be having this conversation, people would scratching their Neil out heads wondering how we picked up a point. It's fine margins isn't it

Scandalous treatment. Reminds me of Forest sacking their manager when he was 5th in the Championship. That worked out well. I presume Eustace will wind up at Rangers, and Rooney at Brum. A little like Stoke with Megson.

And John O'Shea is to join Rooney as 1st team coach, whilst also continuing his Republic of Ireland duties. Didn't he leave us because he wanted to concentrate on his Ireland work - either he realised there's not much work to do as a national team coach, the Ā£'s on offer from Birmingham are too tempting or there were underlying reasons for wanting to leave Stoke. Probably all 3 reasons in part.

A little like Stoke with Megson. Yeah, was sad that as he was doing well. But the ice men wanted their own man so in a way I got it. But I did feel sorry for Gary though. So did I. One of my enduring memories of Stoke is the mass player pile-on for Gary on the touchline when we scored. I liked Gudjon, but I think Gary would have gotten us promoted sooner.

I think that this is a poor move for him. He is definitely worth a job in The Championship, but he has already made it a uphill struggle because of the (seemingly) underhand way this has been handled.

Was doing a steady job and we were sitting ok in the league. I guess he understood that the Icelandic crew would want their own manager and no hard feelings as you said.

I think we only lost to Notts County ...remember it as was flying to Cancun from Gatwick that night and was hanging on not to leave the game in the hope we'd score late on but needed to miss the traffic. Odd what you remember. I think we would have gone top 3 or similar had we won Stoke v Notts C or Cancun Thinking back it shouldn't have been a tough choice š

Never particularly warmed to him personally. He may have made the right noises when he left, and fair play to him for that but my recollection is that I had no real confidence in him as a manager, didnāt like his style of football, and was very comfortable with him being replaced.

Notts Countyā¦ Colchesterā¦ Macclesfieldā¦ <shivers>ā¦ just a reminder of the tin pot clubs we were humiliatingly sharing a league with (and unable to get out of!). That should never be allowed to happen again, so hopefully Neil can start grinding out some results quick smart!

Liked Megson Absolutely no bullshit from him Plus he realised we didn't have much so played Thorne, Lightbourne and Connor together thus taking pressure off Kyle to score goals (which he was shit at) which meant he could put him self about, lots of running and he played better as a result
Nigel Pearson was his assistant who initially stayed on but Gudjon sacked him eventually

Itās happening!!! š Seriously though, I understand that, if Alex Neil is to be replaced, John Eustace will indeed be the man. Tony Pulis will be drafted in as assistant so that Eustace can be reunited with his mentor. āGoooarrrn Johnā (Coates)! š www.skysports.com/football/news/2271142/stoke-swoop-for-eustaceThatās strangeā¦ā¦most of those clips show two attacking players in the oppositions box. How odd. Selective amnesia aka nostalgia.

Isnāt that pretty poor? I think you have to take into account the two teams he has been in charge of. I think he deserves credit for his Tim at Derby County. The club was in chaos, a 21 point deduction, and could not buy any players. DC United is a little bit of an unstable club as well. They do not spend much money and he has relied heavily on younger players. They finished rock bottom last year but are mid-table this time around - so some progress. He has done ok. Nothing more. Nothing less.

Bolton fans would probably agree with you, West Brom fans certainly wouldnt He was definately more Pulis than Hughes in playing style but I though he did a good job in the short time he was with us. Conducted himself with integrity when he left
