Football has passed Hughes by, there was that transitory period around 2014-2017 where instead of it being one or two teams playing the high intensity presses it became increasingly widespread. He couldn't adapt and its happened to so many managers before. It's what happens to most managers but you typically get another 5-10 years rummaging around before clubs finally all come to the same conclusion.
Nathan Jones however, I firmly believe he has some kind of phylactery in Luton and the further away he is from it, the more diminished his managerial ability becomes.

I have a lot of time for Hughes and his first 3 seasons here were right up there with the best ever in my supporting time But hes done now as a manager IMO, nothing to be gained by bringing him back This x100

I like him tbf, my 2nd favourite manager after Lou. 9th place in prem, the best football I've seen us play, decent likeable bloke, just lost his way unfortunately. Played great football through building on TP’s spine. When he started bringing in his own players, that’s where he “lost his way”, and why he should never be entertained as a manager here again! Some amazing signings too though. But Ndaiye, Wimmer, Imbula ruined us. Would be a totally different story had we kept Nzonzi and Arnie. Painful to think on it.

odd how some slate him yet constantly defend the garbage this calamity is serving up Was the best football have seen by some distance also Strangely never heard many complaints for the seasons we finished 9th I’m not advocating for him to return either by the way, but to deride his success here is so misplaced. He lost his way, many managers do.

All managers make bad signings. Not long before I remember plenty on here mocking Southampton for paying over 10 million for VVD from a pub league as they called it.

Yep, some just seem to airbrush out that wonderful first 2.5 years Had he gone in the summer of 17 I think hed be a lot better thought of. 3 x 9th places finishes and a 14th (i think) is not be sniffed at. Sadly some only remember those last few months

He already had a point to prove and failed. When he came to us? At that time he probably saw us as a step down. QPR is never a step up on Stoke in a million years so don’t really see that.

Had he gone then with that pedigree , his name would have come up for rehiring everytime the position came up, because he would have been seen as a sure hit way to relative success.
