So just a quick question. Assuming Gooch and Rose will be missing injured, then the back 4 picks itself (Hoever, McNally, Wilmot, Junior) but the question, who the hell do we have defensivey for the bench?? Literally no one Presume Burger or Laurent could end up at CB Thompson could play left back I think Two young CB's are out on loan as is Macari (who can play all accross the back) Absolutely no sympathy for AN re this

Would this force his hand to get an out of contract player in possibly?.

Johnson was poor again today. Don’t think he should be starting Wednesday. He won’t be. It’s Tuesday

Wes, Bae, Haks and Vidigal have got to start. If it's harsh to drop leris, play him at right back.

Not having a proper alternative to Pearson (AN doesn't seem to think Burger is a 6 from the evidence so far) is a worry for me. Off the ball he's all over the place and he lacks composure on it unless the game is at walking pace. It's a criticism I've aimed towards Thompson for a while now so I've got to be fair and call it how I see it. As one or two others have mentioned I thought Pearson was well off the pace of the game yesterday and that very important block masked another under par performance. Generally speaking our midfield aren’t covering themselves in glory. Wish he’d try a 2:1 pivot with a more creative AM.

The defensive situation is getting a bit alarming.
If Gooch has got a hamstring issue, that'll probably be him done 'til after the international break, and Rose looked to be in a lot of discomfort (although not as much discomfort as me watching him, so perhaps best he takes a breather)
Wonder if Stevens will be back before the break? That'd make a big difference - although the lack of any kind of fourth option at CB is going to be a running sore until January. Presumably it'd have to be Burger in an emergency.

Would they be prepared to bring in a free agent possibly?

Didn't we send 3 defenders out on loan on deadline day? An utterly bonkers decision.

Most teams try and press a Russell Martin side to force them into errors like we’ve done in the last few years but I’m not sure we have the players at the moment to do this. It’ll be interesting how the manager sets up although with all the injuries I doubt he has many options

Two months into a season with no preseason and having not played since the beginning of May (5 months) at the latest I just can't see it happening. Whoever came in would be lucky to be match fit by January. We may as well try and scrape by until then. Seems like we played poker in the summer and lost. We surely can't have intended to go into a season with only three senior CBs.

.....................Travers...................... Junior.........McNally......Wilmot.........Gooch ............Pearson..........Burger.............. Haksa................Johnson..............Vidigal .....................Wesley...................... Subs: Bonham, Hoever, Laurent, Thompson, Jonho, Leris, Lowe. I guess Campbell, Mmaee, Stevens and Rose are all still injured? I'm absolutely amazed that Junho isn't the first name on the team sheet for a few on here. 2 fantastic assists yesterday and is going to be some player for the future. He's by far the most naturally gifted footballer we've got in my opinion.

Whatever the team this will be a tough game. Southampton have shown signs of vulnerability, but they possess the pace and quality up front to cause us real problems

Yes was good to see a positive substitution for a change and AN wanting to win the game. Tbf he got the subs spot on but I still think the likes of Junho and lowe starting isn't the best option for the time being. I'd introduce burger back into the lineup but we don't want to change to much and get so sort of consistant starting 11

He definitely has the ability but I think he needs to be eased in from the bench for a few months with a view to getting him as a regular starter before the end of the season.

Still thought we looked poor in midfield in parts but subs made a huge difference. Travers Hoever Wilmot Mcnally Junior Pearson Burger Bae Leris Wesley (Lowe sub on 60) Hacks It will be this team, but Laurent in for Bae. The sooner people accept Laurent is not getting dropped, the better. I think Bae looked very productive coming in on the LW for Haks, so I think AN will keep him on the bench for that purpose. There's no other enticing alternative to start ahead of Laurent otherwise - DJ unfortunately seems just another end of a shitty stick. Sidibe isn't really a box-to-box type.

Thought Pearson played well today. He seems to do ok if he keeps himself under control Engineered himself a little break didn’t he? Maybe that’s why
